Pyeongtaek restaurant for spicy seafood stew and homemade sikhye
In short
Pyeongtaek Jumulleok is a jumulleok (marinated grilled meat) restaurant that has stood in one spot beside Tongbok Market near Pyeongtaek Station in Gyeonggi Province since 1973. For lunch a couple ordered the soy jumulleok solo set at 10,000 won, spicy seafood stew (honghaetang) at 12,000 won, special bibim naengmyeon, fried shrimp and homemade sikhye (sweet rice punch), and the peppery stew and the barely sweet sikhye stood out most. Pyeongtaek Jumulleok was satisfying enough that the couple bought a 1L bottle of sikhye to take home.

My husband and I were trying to figure out what to eat for lunch when we heard about a jumulleok (marinated grilled meat) place near Pyeongtaek Station that's been around for over 50 years. So we decided to check it out — it's called Pyeongtaek Jumulleok.

Where is Pyeongtaek Jumulleok? Hours and Tongbok Market parking
Pyeongtaek Jumulleok is located at 52 Pyeongtaek1-ro 9beon-gil, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, open daily 07:00–21:00 and closed Sundays. There's a break time from 15:00 to 17:00, with last order at 20:00.
Since it's near Tongbok Market and I figured I'd swing by the market after lunch anyway, I parked at the Tongbok Market parking lot. It took about 5 minutes to walk from there.
A 1973 restaurant with a Century-Old Store certificate

When we arrived at Pyeongtaek Jumulleok, it really had that old-restaurant feel. I used to avoid places like this, but after a few good experiences with old-school spots, I actually trust them more now.

Walking in, the entrance sign and the room dividers showed their age, and there were quite a lot of tables spread across separated spaces. Even though it was early for lunch, we saw a lot of what looked like office workers along with older customers.

On the wall hung a Century-Old Store certification and awards from the Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation. It's also been featured on several TV shows.
What two people ordered at Pyeongtaek Jumulleok, and the prices
We looked over the menu debating what to get. Since it's a jumulleok place, we had to have jumulleok, and my husband said he wanted both the spicy seafood stew and naengmyeon (cold noodles).
- Lunch special soy jumulleok solo set ₩10,000
- Spicy seafood stew (Honghaetang) ₩12,000
- Special bibim naengmyeon ₩7,000
- Homemade sikhye 500ml ₩3,900
- Fried shrimp 3pc ₩3,700
It seemed like a lot for two people, but we were really hungry.
Looking at the Pyeongtaek Jumulleok menu, I thought this spread for this price was a great deal. My husband and I talked about how we could bring our kids here when they're at that hungry growth-spurt age and not worry about the bill.
Inside the 10,000-won soy jumulleok solo lunch set

They brought out the soy jumulleok solo lunch set first, and the spicy seafood stew and naengmyeon came out right after. Once everything was laid out, it looked really generous.

I started with the hangover soup that came with the set. It tasted so much like the one my mother-in-law makes. The kind of broth that feels like it'll settle your stomach.

Then I tried the soy jumulleok. The meat was thick with a satisfying chew, had zero unpleasant smell, and was just slightly salty — perfect with rice.

The soy-marinated perilla leaves, cucumber salad, stir-fried fish cake, and white kimchi were all delicious too.
Spicy seafood stew and bibim naengmyeon served with broth to pour

The spicy seafood stew (Honghaetang) was loaded with scallops, squid, mussels, mushrooms, and more. It felt like they didn't hold back on the ingredients.

It was a bit spicy for me since I'm weak with spice, but my husband, who handles spicy food well, said it was just right. He said the broth got more savory and delicious the more he ate.

The owner told us the bibim naengmyeon tastes better with some broth poured in. We added a little at first, then ended up pouring in the whole thing and mixing it in. Haha.

The noodles were super thin and soft, and the seasoning was delicious. It paired really well with the soy jumulleok.
Fried shrimp and the homemade sikhye that stole the meal

After working through the rice for a while, we moved on to the fried shrimp. Do I even need to say anything about hot, fresh fried shrimp? Nutty and delicious. Haha.

Whenever things felt a little greasy, we'd take a bite of the spicy seafood stew, and whenever the stew got too spicy, we'd sip some sikhye. Haha.

I took one sip of the sikhye and was completely won over.
It tasted just like the sikhye my mom makes — not too sweet, with a deep flavor. It was so good.
Final verdict, plus a 1L bottle of sikhye to take home

On our way home, we bought a 1L bottle of sikhye to take with us. Haha. Having held the same spot since 1973, this place clearly has good reason for it — every dish felt like it was made with real care.
Both the owner and the staff seemed genuinely kind, which left as much of an impression as the food. Next time I want to try the gochujang jumulleok, and I'm pretty sure I'll be buying more sikhye when I go. If you're looking for a good lunch spot near Pyeongtaek Station, Pyeongtaek Jumulleok is worth a visit.
