Trying to figure out where to eat meat in Suwon, I ended up at Ssosam 208 this time 🥩🔥 Meat really tastes best when you get a mix of cuts, so I picked a menu where we could eat a bit of everything — it turned out way more generous than I expected and I came home stuffed haha ㅋㅋㅋ

Outside the restaurant

Ssosam 208 has that unmistakable BBQ-restaurant look even from the street, so it wasn't hard to find! I got there before dinner rush, but there were still plenty of customers as you'd expect from a proper meat place, and the delicious smell drifting outside made me hungry before I even walked in haha ㅋㅋㅋ 🔥

Inside the restaurant

Once inside, there were plenty of tables and the whole place had a relaxed vibe that's great for grilling meat together! Some BBQ spots have tables packed too tightly, which gets uncomfortable, but here it was comfortable to sit and eat, and it seemed like a good spot to come with friends for a few drinks too 🍻

The menu had all kinds of cuts and side dishes! There were so many options I spent a while deciding…🤍

I'd been seeing stone-grill BBQ on TV lately and really wanted to try it, and here my wish came true..!!!! Even the side dishes are made in-house one by one, and they were so good. Nothing beats food made with that much care 🙌

Staff grill everything for you, and they actually check the temperature with a thermometer to hit 208°C! Maybe that's why it tasted so good.

What we ordered - Mixed stone-grill platter 500g

Table setup with the ordered mixed stone-grill platter at Ssosam 208 Suwon Station Branch

Looking at the menu, there were all kinds of cuts like pork belly and pork neck, but we went with the mixed stone-grill platter (medium) so we could try several cuts at once! It came with pork belly 250g + pork neck 150g + cheongyeopsal (thousand-layer pork belly) 100g, 500g total 🥩 Since it seemed like it'd go well with the meat, we also added cheese fondue, and finished with basalt snow kimchi fried rice and beef brisket doenjang stew ㅋㅋㅋ

The mixed platter 🤤🔥 With all the cuts loaded on at once, it looked amazing right from the start. Having pork belly, pork neck, and cheongyeopsal together made it more fun than just eating one cut over and over!

That sizzling grilling service is the best!!!

Tasting the difference: pork belly, pork neck, and cheongyeopsal

The pork belly, grilled golden brown, was savory and delicious, and the pork neck was clean-tasting while staying juicy. Cheongyeopsal had a totally different texture, and I kept reaching for more of it too haha ㅋㅋㅋ Eating several cuts together meant I never got tired of it, switching between them one by one ❤️🔥

How was the added cheese fondue?

And the cheese fondue I added 🧀 Doesn't it look like a volcano erupting ㅋㅋㅋ Grilling a piece of meat well and dipping it deep into the cheese added a spicy, savory kick that was delicious! It's tasty just dipped in the regular sauce too, but if you like cheese, adding this is worth it haha ㅎㅎ

There were so many side dishes that it was fun eating in different combinations ㅎㅎ

Finishing with basalt snow kimchi fried rice

After eating our fill of meat, of course you have to finish with fried rice 😎 We ordered the basalt snow kimchi fried rice! It had cheese on top of the kimchi fried rice, and eating it on the leftover stone grill after the meat was just right. The spicy kick of the kimchi combined with the cheese made for a great way to wrap up the meal 🍚🧀

Beef brisket doenjang stew and complimentary kimchi rice noodle soup

No BBQ restaurant is complete without doenjang (soybean paste) stew. We also ordered the beef brisket doenjang stew, and it was perfect to eat with rice alongside the meat. With beef brisket in it, you could taste a savory richness beyond a regular doenjang stew, and sipping the warm broth alongside a bite of meat was a great combo! Especially after eating meat for a while, one spoonful of the stew broth and suddenly you want more rice ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

And then there was the complimentary kimchi rice noodle soup 🍜 Eating meat can get a little greasy, but this broth with kimchi in it was spicy and clean, great to have in between bites. After the meat, the doenjang stew, the fried rice, and then the rice noodle soup, I was genuinely stuffed ㅋㅋㅋㅋ It was great to be able to eat a variety of cuts from the mixed platter, and adding the cheese fondue, beef brisket doenjang stew, and kimchi fried rice made the whole meal feel even more generous

A generous final spread with the mixed platter and side dishes

Final thoughts

Overall, I liked being able to eat a variety of cuts, and adding the cheese fondue and kimchi fried rice made for a good menu combination 🥩🧀🍚 I'll remember this as a great spot to visit with friends or a group when you want to eat generously in Suwon!
