Main photo of Geuttaegeujip, a cauldron-lid pork BBQ restaurant in Uijeongbu's new town area

If you're looking for a place to eat pork BBQ late at night in Uijeongbu's new town area, I'd recommend Geuttaegeujip (그때그집).

Meat and kimchi grilling together on the cauldron lid

What I liked most is that it's open 24 hours, so you're not really constrained by time when you visit, and the way they grill meat and kimchi together on a big cauldron lid made me feel like I was having a proper BBQ meal for the first time in a while. This time I started with pork neck and ended up eating pork belly and pork skirt too. Let's get into the detailed review❗️〰️

Where Geuttaegeujip is and when it opens

Geuttaegeujip is located at 25 Beomgol-ro 145beon-gil, 1st floor, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open 24 hours.

It's located in the new town area not far from Uijeongbu Station, so it's fairly easy to get to. It's confirmed to run 24 hours a day, year-round, which means you can eat here for breakfast, lunch, or even late at night.

What the dining room at Geuttaegeujip feels like

Once I walked in, I found several tables set up — the place was bigger than I expected.

It felt like a fine spot for a meal with friends, and also comfortable enough for a bigger group coming for BBQ.

The comfortable interior of a long-running BBQ restaurant

The first thing that caught my eye walking in was the meat fridge. Seeing the meat displayed right at the entrance immediately gave me the feeling that I'd arrived at a proper BBQ restaurant. The overall vibe was a bit different from the clean, newly opened spots you see these days. There was that comfortable feeling unique to a place that's been running in the same spot for a long time — I heard it's been open for 20 years, and it felt like the kind of place with regular neighborhood customers.

Geuttaegeujip's menu has several cuts ready to go, from pork belly to pork neck, pork skirt, and pork jowl. We didn't order a bunch of things right away — we started with two servings of pork neck.

Pork neck is ₩18,000 per serving.

We planned to add other cuts if we were still hungry after the pork neck, but once we started eating, we got curious about the other cuts and ended up adding pork belly and pork skirt too.

First order: two servings of pork neck

Two servings of pork neck placed on the cauldron lid

Once you order, the meat gets placed on a big cauldron lid to grill.

The pork neck had a decent thickness, and once it was grilled to a nice golden brown, it had a good chew to it.

Side dishes served with the pork

Various side dishes served with the meat

The side dishes were about as good as the meat itself. Some BBQ places only give you a handful of sides, but here several were laid out together, making the table feel more generous than I expected. You could wrap the meat and sides in lettuce, or pair them with the grilled kimchi — good for mixing and matching to your taste.

Aged kimchi served alongside the meat

And something you can't skip here is the aged kimchi (신김치). It comes out to eat alongside the meat, and I put it straight onto one side of the cauldron lid to grill it too.

Kimchi cooking on one side of the cauldron lid

As the kimchi cooked in the fat rendered from the meat and turned slightly golden, it tasted a lot better than eating it plain.

If you like grilled kimchi, make good use of that cauldron lid.

Adding pork belly and pork skirt mid-meal

After finishing the two servings of pork neck, we ended up adding pork belly and pork skirt as well.

Pork belly is ₩18,000 per serving, pork skirt is ₩20,000 per serving.

Doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) also comes as a default. You don't need to order it separately, which is nice if you want it with rice or need something soupy between rounds of meat.

Soft tofu stew with dough flakes at 50% off

Sign noting 50% off soft tofu stew with dough flakes when ordering meat

Soft tofu stew with dough flakes (순두부수제비) is 50% off when you order meat. I was curious about this one while looking at the menu. It's ₩20,000 for 2 servings, but it says you get 50% off if you order meat. If you're someone who likes to round things off with a rice or noodle dish, this deal is worth using. We'd already had plenty of meat this time, so we didn't order it, but I'd love to try it as a finishing dish next time I visit.

Honest verdict on Geuttaegeujip

What I liked most about Geuttaegeujip was, of course, the fact that it's open 24 hours. There are surprisingly many times when you want pork BBQ but it's too late and nowhere seems like a good option. Here, you can visit without worrying about the time, so it's a good choice whenever you want meat late in the evening or as a midnight snack. It's also worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a place near Uijeongbu Station for a work dinner.

I recommend Geuttaegeujip if you're looking for good food in Uijeongbu's new town area❗️ It's also open as usual during the Chuseok holiday, so if you're looking for somewhere to eat in Uijeongbu over the holidays, keep this in mind :)
