I went back to Uijeongbu's Jeil Market after a while, partly to pick up some side dishes! Markets are always fun to wander through, and there are so many snacks you just can't walk past, haha. Feeling a bit hungry, my pick for today's snack was dakgangjeong (Korean-style fried chicken)! Haha.

I packed three flavors to go — sweet, fried, and garlic soy — and along with how crispy the chicken was, the clean shop and the friendly owner really stuck with me, haha. Let me give you an honest review of how the takeout chicken tasted! Today I'm introducing a snack spot in Uijeongbu Jeil Market: 'Dalgom's' 😆

True to its takeout-focused setup, Dalgom's has chairs inside where you can sit while you wait! Since it's an open kitchen, I could faintly see the owner cooking, haha.

Wait, but they told me the shop has been open for about 2 years!? Two years? Not two weeks!? 👀!! The kitchen and the whole interior were kept so spotlessly clean +_+ I could feel the owner's tidy personality, and knowing even the cooking area was kept so hygienic made me like the place even more 🧡

Inside there was also a water heater and a microwave! Seriously, not a single fingerprint anywhere — it was that clean 👍🏻✨

Menu and prices: 1.5 chickens in three flavors for 24,000 won

Let's take a look at the menu board, shall we? 👀 There's half a chicken (one flavor) for one person, a whole chicken (two flavors) for two people, and 1.5 chickens (three flavors) for three people, so you can pick based on your group size or appetite, haha. You choose from 7 flavors total based on your taste +_+

I went with the 1.5-chicken set (three flavors) for ₩24,000. I ordered sweet, garlic soy, and fried flavors 😋

While chatting with the owner, my order came out pretty quickly, haha. Looks pretty generous, right? 😆 They also threw in shrimp chips and pickled radish as a freebie! Haha.

Once home, I quickly washed my hands and dove right in +_+ Ah, dakgangjeong really has to be eaten while it's warm, haha. I'm not really into overly intense powders or sauces like Bburinkle-style seasoning, so I went for a classic combo! 😆

Plain fried dakgangjeong: light with a dip in the salt

Let's start with the fried flavor! It's the basic choice, with a crispy texture and moist meat still intact inside 🤍 Fried is my favorite, so naturally my hand went there first, haha. Wow, seriously so crispy ㅠㅠ crunchy outside, but the chicken inside was so moist! They gave salt on the side, so I dipped it in and tried it, haha. It was perfect for enjoying the plain, savory essence of fried chicken as-is 😍

Sweet dakgangjeong: loaded with chewy rice cakes

Next up, the sweet flavor! 🍗 Not too sweet, so it's easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed — think of a gochujang-based sauce similar to yangnyeom chicken sauce! I feel like this one would also go great with rice. Definitely could work as chibap (chicken over rice), haha.

And in between the pieces, there was plenty of rice cake mixed in! The chewy rice cake soaked up the sweet sauce nicely, giving off tteokkochi (rice cake skewer) vibes 🧡

Garlic soy dakgangjeong: a gentle garlic aroma

Last up, garlic soy flavor! It's a soy-based flavor that isn't too salty, with a gentle garlic aroma, haha. This is a flavor that feels familiar and easy to love if you're used to Korean food 😆 The savory soy sauce combined with the subtle garlic scent made it easy to enjoy without much room for dislike! It'd also pair well with spicy dishes like tteokbokki, and honestly felt like it could go well with just about anything 👍🏻
