Gangneung gelato café for after-lunch dessert: Hi Gelato Signature

I'm Yoribari, always chasing dopamine here and there. Today I visited Hi Gelato in Gangneung.

Hi Gelato is a gelato café at 158 Toseong-ro, 1F, right on the corner of a crossroads. It's open daily 11:30–20:00, and since the building itself has no parking, I had to use a nearby lot.

Sitting right on the corner of a crossroads, Hi Gelato caught my eye easily as I walked by.

I visited after lunch, looking for dessert with a friend, and found the place easily thanks to its clean exterior and sign. There was no parking at the building itself, but there were several lots nearby to use. We parked and walked over.

What is the shop like inside?

Inside, Hi Gelato was bright and clean overall. There was a gelato showcase, so it was fun just to look at all the flavors.

Once inside, everything was bright and clean, with cute little touches here and there. It had a modern, MZ-generation aesthetic without being over the top, and browsing the gelato showcase was fun in itself haha

Even after a hearty lunch, seeing all the gelato flavors laid out made it hard to decide what to pick.

Hi Gelato's gelato comes in a small cup for ₩5,000, a large cup for ₩6,500, and the Hi Gelato Signature for ₩9,000. You choose the cup size and flavor to suit your taste.

While I was deliberating over the menu, a staff member let me taste a few flavors first, which made the choosing process easy and nice ^^

This time I ordered the Hi Gelato Signature and a large cup gelato.

Eating from the top down, the refreshing sweetness became more distinct the further down I went.

Since the flavor shifted within a single cup, eating it felt quite dynamic the whole time. If you like enjoying several flavors at once, the Signature's particular kind of fun would suit you well.

Large cup, 6,500 won: Achacha Matcha Cha and Gourmet Butter Brown Cheese

I ordered the large cup for ₩6,500 and picked two flavors: achacha matcha tea and gourmet butter brown cheese. The matcha was rich, and the brown cheese was nutty and had a more luxurious edge.

The achacha matcha tea had a pretty deep matcha flavor that matched well with the thick, dense gelato texture. Rather than a light passing note of matcha, the rich flavor lingered in the mouth, so even my friend who loves matcha desserts enjoyed it a lot.

The gourmet butter brown cheese reminded me of Baskin Robbins' New York Cheesecake for a familiar comparison, but it was even richer in aroma and flavor, with a bit more of a luxurious feel !!

One more thing I liked: they topped each gelato with a free extra scoop of a flavor I hadn't ordered. Getting to lightly experience a new flavor beyond the one I chose was a nice surprise.

Is Hi Gelato worth it for after-lunch dessert?

Hi Gelato was a bright, clean space with the added fun of choosing your gelato. It was a great place to compare the different charms of a flavor-shifting menu like the Signature against a thick, rich cup gelato. Today too, I went chasing dopamine here and there, and came back sweetly recharged 🍨
