Korean bar in Sadang, Seoul: two rice bowls in altang, Jindallae Silbi
In short
Jindallae Silbi Sadang Branch is a retro Korean cooking bar on the second floor near Sadang Station in Dongjak, Seoul, where an imokase chef's-choice course brings 15 dishes for 39,000 won per person. Ordered for two, the course covered abalone porridge, bossam, soy-marinated raw crab, steamed whole squid, aged sashimi, pork cutlet, sweet-and-sour flatfish, seafood pancake and altang (fish roe stew), and because rice and instant noodles are free, two bowls of rice went straight into the altang broth. If you're looking for somewhere to really drink in Sadang, I genuinely want to recommend Jindallae Silbi Sadang Branch 🍻🔥 This place runs a course for ₩39,000 per person with a whopping 15 side dishes.
At first I thought, even if they say 15 kinds, it's probably just small portions, right? But the dishes kept coming out one after another and I honestly thought the table legs would snap..

Sneak peek of round one lol, even a quick glance shows the lineup is insane. You're not nursing one side dish while eyeing your drink cautiously — new food keeps coming out no matter how much you eat, so the drinks just kept flowing.

What Jindallae Silbi Sadang looks like, and what two people ordered
The interior was decorated in a retro style and spacious enough to seat up to 70 people. I ordered the ₩39,000 course for two.

Abalone porridge to bossam: how the 39,000-won course starts
First up was abalone porridge, savory and soft, a great starter dish. It felt like it gently soothed my stomach before drinking, which I liked. The bossam (boiled pork wrap) came with radish on top, and the combo worked really well. A solid, easy drinking side dish you keep reaching for!

The japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) had a bit too much noodle for my taste personally, but the sweet seasoning was good so it was easy to pick at piece by piece. The spicy cartilage (ododeok) was great to eat when you're feeling a bit greasy from meat or fried food. A menu that snaps your appetite right back with heat!

The nostalgic pink sausage and soft soft-tofu were the perfect basic side dishes.

Soy-marinated raw crab, steamed whole squid and aged sashimi: the highlights
The ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab) was rich and salty, done properly. This is genuinely a rice-calling flavor even though it's a drinking side dish, I kept thinking about rice lol.
Squeeze the meat onto white rice and put it on top — you basically pass out.

The braised whole squid came with plump squid plus scallops and shrimp thrown in, a dish that'll win over anyone who loves seafood. I tore off a big chunk of squid to eat — chewy but clean-tasting, really delicious.

The aged sashimi came as flounder and salmon! Aged kimchi and seaweed were served alongside too.

I especially liked the engawa (fatty flounder fin meat). They even gave us sushi rice so we could make our own nigiri-style bites — such a thoughtful touch. Can sashimi really come at this price…? Amazing as a drinking side dish.

A free bottle of beer from the prize draw
Midway through, they ran a little draw event, and I pulled 4th prize, winning a free bottle of beer! Boss, are you actually making any money selling like this??

Pork cutlet, sweet-and-sour flatfish and squid pajeon
The pork cutlet (donkkaseu) was thicker than expected, a nice touch. Paired with a soft sauce, it's the kind of familiar flavor everyone loves. The flatfish sweet-and-sour had no fishy taste at all and was clean, so even people who don't usually do fish dishes could handle it fine. Crispy outside, clean inside — I kept eating it. . .

One dish I personally kept reaching for was the pajeon (seafood pancake). I live alone so I genuinely never get to eat pancakes like this... But they loaded it with squid, and the chewy bite was so good I kept eating it right to the end. When you're drinking, you can't resist any kind of jeon (savory pancake) haha.

Free rice and noodles: two bowls of rice in the altang broth
And the tastiest dish I had at the end was the altang (fish roe stew). The broth was refreshing and spicy-hot, and a spoonful while drinking made me go ooh,,, so good. This place gives free rice and instant noodle sarai, so I kept fetching more and more, which made me genuinely happy.
I put two bowls of rice into the clear, spicy broth..... Rice honestly went better with it than the noodle sarai. And it was seriously the best drinking side dish..

At the very end they even brought out melon for a proper palate cleanser 🍈 It really felt endless no matter how much we ate — I kept wondering if ₩39,000 per person could really be right lol.
Is Jindallae Silbi Sadang worth it for a team dinner in Sadang?
Looking around, there were a lot of older male customers lol. At first I thought, is this the right spot...? But then I remembered, a place full of older regulars is always the real deal... and I got it.
They said pulling dalgona (honeycomb candy) wins you a bottle of soju, but I was pretty drunk by then... and felt like my stomach was going to burst lol, so I gave up on the dalgona.
If you're having a company dinner in Sadang, or want a proper drink with friends, and you want to eat your fill of a variety of side dishes at great value, I recommend Jindallae Silbi Sadang Branch 🔥
