Seolleung Station sushi restaurant: ₩20,000 BEST1 set, Sushi Maiu

I was looking for somewhere to eat alone near Seolleung Station and Sushi Maiu Seolleung Station Branch looked like decent value, so I stopped by!

When you want to eat sushi alone, bar seats are so much more comfortable than a table. Sushi Maiu has a long stretch of bar seating, so going in alone felt totally fine. I visited around 5pm on a weekend and ended up having a more relaxed meal than I expected :)

Bar seats made for solo dining, plus tables for four

Walking into Sushi Maiu, a long sushi rail runs through the middle with bar seats in front of it. Since I was solo, I sat at the bar!

There were also about 5 tables for four, so it looked good not just for solo diners but for pairs or groups too.

Plate prices from ₩2,100, and a separate lunch set menu

True to a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, prices vary by plate color. When I visited, they ranged from ₩2,100 up to ₩7,500.

There was also a separate lunch set menu. You can pick sushi piece by piece, but if you're like me and can't decide what to get, ordering a set is much easier!

I picked the Popular BEST1 set for ₩20,000! It comes with beef tartare, salmon, seasoned shrimp, garlic shrimp, wagyu, and garlic steak sushi plus mini udon. Since you get so many types on one plate, it's perfect if you want to try a bit of everything.

Why Sushi Maiu keeps so few plates on the belt

At first it seemed a little odd for a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant — there wasn't as much sushi on the rail as I expected.

But according to a sign posted there, they don't load it up in order to keep the sushi fresh and prevent it from drying out.

If you want a certain piece, you just order it from the chef in front of you and they make it fresh on the spot!

That's so much better than sushi that's been circling the belt so long the rice or fish surface dries out :) In practice, the fish was fresh and nicely thick, which was satisfying.

What comes in the ₩20,000 Popular BEST1 set?

After a short wait, a big plate arrived loaded with sushi all at once. With so many types, it looked pretty generous just visually :) Salmon, beef tartare, seasoned shrimp, garlic shrimp, and meat sushi were all there, so instead of eating the same mild sushi over and over, it was fun to move from one flavor to the next.

The salmon was cut thick, soft to chew, and had a nice rich flavor.

The beef tartare sushi paired soft tartare with rice in a combo that worked well.

The garlic shrimp had sauce over a plump shrimp, and eating it in between the milder pieces really switched things up — good for a mid-meal change of pace.

The wagyu and garlic steak sushi, both topped with meat, were the filling, generous-bite kind.

Soy-marinated shrimp sushi: the best bite of the set

Glossy seasoned shrimp piled generously on the rice had great texture right away. The shrimp was chewy and the seasoning was neither too strong nor too bland — just right. After one bite I wanted to order more of just the shrimp haha.

The grouper sushi I added on

Stopping at just the set felt like leaving something on the table, so I added grouper sushi too.

Even from the photo you can tell the fish wasn't sliced thin — it's noticeably thick. Biting into it, the thick fish had a chewy texture, worth trying if you like fish sushi. What I liked most was that the fish felt fresh overall. Tasting it, I understood why they make sushi to order instead of loading up the rail.

The mini udon that comes with the set

You crave a bit of warm broth in between sushi bites, right?

The Popular BEST1 comes with mini udon too. The broth wasn't heavy or too strong, so it was clean and easy to sip between pieces of sushi.

The noodles were springy with no sogginess, and they were delicious. With the sushi and the mini udon together, it made for a filling solo meal.

What solo dining at Sushi Maiu is really like

Visiting alone this time, Sushi Maiu turned out to be a solid spot for solo dining near Seolleung Station. The long bar seating meant I didn't feel like I was taking up too much space by myself.

I could order whatever sushi I wanted right there in front of me, which made solo eating easy. The owner and staff were both friendly, so it was a pleasant meal :)

Final thoughts on Sushi Maiu near Seolleung Station

I liked that they don't load up the rail with sushi and instead make it fresh to order, so the fish doesn't dry out. The fish was thicker than expected, and of everything I ate, the seasoned shrimp sushi was my favorite! The Popular BEST1 at ₩20,000 lets you try several types of sushi plus mini udon all at once, which is a good option if you don't want to fuss over picking individual pieces or just want to try a variety. If I'm near Seolleung Station looking for a place to eat alone or want a casual sushi meal, I think I'll come back :)
