Haebangchon wood-fired pizza spot for sweet corn and taleggio: TPM hbc

In short

TPM hbc is a wood-fired pizza restaurant on Sinheung-ro in Haebangchon, Yongsan, Seoul, with a lineup of unique pizzas you rarely see elsewhere. On a weekend open-run visit, the seasonal Sweet Corn and Taleggio pizza cost 30,000 won and was paired with a Korean bangah (Agastache) ade; fermented corn puree and corn butter with thyme, sage, mozzarella and taleggio made for a complex sweet-and-salty bite. Between the food and the room, TPM hbc works just as well for Haebangchon brunch as for a wine bar evening.

Looking for Haebangchon brunch? Why we picked TPM hbc

My friend and I decided to have brunch in Haebangchon over the weekend, and after debating where to go, we headed to TPM hbc — great atmosphere, lots of unique pizza options.

TPM hbc has a lot of unique pizza varieties you don't really see elsewhere! So if you consider yourself a pizza person, this place is definitely worth experiencing. The interior is great and the whole vibe of the space is so good it'd work for a blind date, a wedding invitation gathering, a date spot — basically any occasion!

You could really feel the owner's taste in everything, from the lighting to the tables and chairs.

Every corner the camera landed on was pretty, so I kept taking photos.

There are really so many unique pizzas here. There's also a separate lineup of seasonal pizzas, and the one that caught my eye was the Sweet Corn and Taleggio for 30,000 won. With fermented corn puree, corn butter, thyme, sage, mozzarella and taleggio, it was a completely different style from a regular tomato-sauce pizza.

Korean bangah ade at TPM hbc: a K-mojito in spirit

A glass of Korean bangah ade

I saw a Korean bangah (Agastache herb) ade on the menu and had to order it — cool, sweet, and with the bangah flavor coming through clearly. It gave off a K-mojito kind of feeling... at first it felt a little unfamiliar, but as I kept drinking it, it turned out to be a clean flavor that paired really well with the pizza!

How does the Sweet Corn and Taleggio pizza taste?

Even the look of this pizza was a bit different from a typical one. It's built around fermented corn puree and corn butter that bring out the sweetness of sweet corn, plus herbs like thyme and sage, and mozzarella and taleggio cheese — an unusual ingredient combination from the start. Since it's a corn pizza, I expected something simply sweet, but with the cheese and herbs added in, the flavor felt much more complex. Rather than just a sweet pizza, it felt more like a sweet-and-salty pizza. The presence of the salty cheese really came through.

Trying the Sweet Corn and Taleggio pizza at this Haebangchon favorite, the gentle sweetness of the sweet corn hit first, followed by the rich, savory depth of the cheese. The soft flavor of mozzarella blended with the distinctive character of taleggio, so it wasn't just a sweet pizza — it also had a salty, savory side. I came away realizing once again that corn and cheese is just an unbeatable combo haha.

The depth taleggio cheese adds to the pizza

For the Sweet Corn and Taleggio pizza I ordered at this Haebangchon pizza spot, the ingredient that really stood out to me was the taleggio. Adding taleggio cheese gave the pizza a distinctive, deep flavor. When the sweetness of the corn met the rich flavor of the cheese, you could taste several different notes in a single slice — a clearly different experience from a regular pizza! If you usually like pizzas with unusual flavor combinations, this one is worth trying.

I found it unique and delicious, and ate every bite happily! Since it's a wood-fired pizza, the crust is thin and light, and it's tasty on its own even without toppings. I guess a great pizza place really does start with the dough.

House-made pickles and Tabasco on the side

When they brought out the pizza, they also gave us house-made pickles, which had no harsh flavors, so I enjoyed them even more! They went really well with the pizza.

If it had just been corn and cheese, it might have felt a bit heavy, but the thyme and sage added a fragrant herbal note. Thanks to that, faint herb aromas came through between the rich bites of cheese, so I never got tired of it until the last slice. It really felt like a pizza made with thought put into every single ingredient combination! They also gave us red and green Tabasco, so for the last slice I tried drizzling on some sauce, which gave it a whole different kind of appeal.

Great atmosphere, great taste — this was my visit review of TPM hbc in Haebangchon, which I'd recommend as a Haebangchon brunch spot or a wine bar alike!
