Busan tonkatsu with a 15-minute weekday evening wait: Hets Jeonpo

In short

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet) restaurant on the second floor near Exit 7 of Jeonpo Station in Busanjin, Busan. Arriving at 6:30pm on a weekday meant a 15-minute wait, then one YBD assorted katsu at 17.0 and one limited-run YBD sang loin katsu at 16.0, eaten with pepper, corn-flavored salad dressing, truffle oil and wasabi. The pork at Hets Jeonpo was tender rather than chewy — the best tonkatsu tasted so far.

Today I visited a Jeonpo tonkatsu spot everyone raves about: Hets ʚ❤︎ɞ

Honestly, this is the place my boyfriend has been talking my ear off about forever -! He loves tonkatsu so much I call him Pork-dong-kka, and when he suggested Hets he was so excited >.< ~ I'd been wanting to go myself too, so I rushed over after work, heart fluttering haha

Start of the visit to Hets Jeonpo Branch

Where is Hets Jeonpo Branch, and what are the hours?

I'd walked past before and always thought the interior looked so clean, but I had no idea this was a tonkatsu place..! It's only 5 minutes from Jeonpo Station so the accessibility felt great haha. I got there around 6:30 and the place was already packed !!

How long was the weekday evening wait at Hets Jeonpo?

Sure enough… there was a wait ㅜ_ㅜ Apparently there's usually a wait even on weekday evenings! But if it means delicious tonkatsu, I can handle it.. stomach growling…

Weekday evening wait at Hets Jeonpo Branch

We waited about 15 minutes and tables opened up faster than expected, so we got in quickly haha. The inside felt clean and comfortable, and the staff were so friendly.. ✨

What we ordered: limited YBD sang loin katsu and YBD assorted katsu

While deciding what to eat, the words 'limited quantity' caught my curiosity, so we ordered one YBD sang loin katsu (limited) and one YBD assorted katsu :)

These come standard at the front of your table — from the left: pepper, salad dressing, truffle oil, and wasabi

Looking to the side, there was a spot to hang coats, an umbrella stand, and space for luggage :) Travelers with big bags could eat comfortably here too haha

Coat hooks and luggage space beside the seating

First came the standard miso soup, rice, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and sauce — the miso soup was so light and delicious I felt like I could finish a whole meal on it alone !!! While I was busy devouring the soup, the tonkatsu arrived haha

YBD assorted katsu, 17.0

YBD assorted katsu 17.0 — I looked up what YBD means and apparently it stands for a combination of Yorkshire + Berkshire + Duroc pigs! I don't really know my cuts, but this seems perfect when you want to try a variety of parts in one dish :) There's a fun little thrill in tasting each piece one by one ~

The meat at Hets was so tender ,, doesn't it look tender just from the photo ㅜ.ㅜ Good-looking tonkatsu tastes good too.. that's the phrase that comes to mind (?)

YBD sang loin katsu, 16.0 (limited)

YBD sang loin katsu 16.0 — it has a bit of gabri-sal (neck fat) attached, so it's great when you want an even more tender bite haha! I actually ordered it just because 'limited' caught my eye, but the tonkatsu master himself, my boyfriend, said I chose well ^^

This was really my style ㅠㅠ The meat wasn't tough at all, so tender, and the fatty part wasn't greasy either — I really enjoyed it haha

Best way to eat Hets tonkatsu: corn dressing, truffle oil and wasabi

My boyfriend, a self-proclaimed 38,104-time visitor to Hets, offered to teach me the best way to eat it, showing off all sorts of combinations lol. First, he said you have to sprinkle on the pepper, and suddenly started shaking it around like a chef on a cooking show haha

Pepper being sprinkled onto the tonkatsu

And this salad dressing is really the kicker!!!! It's corn-flavored, so I wondered if it would even go well.. but it turned out to be a taste I kept thinking about @.@.. I couldn't stop reaching for it.. I ate it like I was under a spell lol

Dip it straight into the sauce and eat

This time we topped it with both truffle oil and wasabi together haha! The truffle aroma is really strong, but a bite of that when things feel too rich brings a whole new flavor :)

Is Hets Jeonpo Branch worth the wait?

Hets might just be the best tonkatsu I've ever had ㅠ~ㅠ Being able to eat it with so many different combinations, plus the clean, pleasant atmosphere of the restaurant — I loved it all haha
