Walnut tart and train schedule at On the Rail café in Paju

In short

On the Rail is an outdoor bakery café in Munsan-eup, Paju, Gyeonggi, right beside the railway on Imjingak-ro. The writer ordered an Americano, lemonade, walnut tart and alligator pie, moving between indoor seats and the outdoor second floor to watch trains pass by the posted timetable. Open until 2am, it suits everything from sunset coffee to a late-night drive.

Today I visited On the Rail, a café where you can enjoy wide-open nature views along with passing trains and sunsets! It's already famous as a late-night café in Paju, since it stays open late enough to work as a nighttime drive destination too.

Location and parking — search "On the Rail" and head toward the tracks

Search "On the Rail" in your navigation app and head toward the railway tracks, and you'll find this outdoor café in Paju! There's a large dedicated parking lot right in front, so even on a weekend I didn't have to worry about parking.

Once inside, I liked how wide the drink selection was — coffee, lattes, ades, and fruit smoothies. This outdoor café in Paju is a Care Kids Zone, so children are welcome inside too. Pets can only be with you outdoors, and only on a leash!

Bakery menu and our order — the injeolmi mammoth bread was sold out

The bakery menu was pretty varied too. There were breads like croissants and toast, plus pastries like cookies and pound cake — enough for a light meal. I wanted to try the injeolmi (sweet rice cake) mammoth bread but it was sold out, aw ( 。゚Д゚。). I ended up ordering lemonade, an Americano, a walnut tart, and an alligator pie.

What about the seating — indoors and outdoor 1st/2nd floor

The inside was spacious with plenty of comfortable seats! Outside there were 1st floor and 2nd floor seats, plus even more space and seating to the side. The 2nd floor has a direct view of the railway tracks and felt so wide open, almost like being right under the sky. The sky was so blue that day, sitting outside felt amazing.

There's a microwave and oven for warming up bread, and baby chairs were ready too :) I actually saw a lot of people visiting with babies. The restroom is inside the café too, so it was clean!

How did it taste — walnut tart and alligator pie

The Americano (mild) and lemonade came out fast!

The Americano had a nutty flavor that went well with the bakery items, and the lemonade was refreshing and delicious! The alligator pie was packed with walnuts and nuts, crunchy and great, and especially the walnut tart — the moment I took a bite, the filling was so full that the chewy texture was amazing. Sipping the Americano between bites of the sweet desserts was pure healing ( ☆∀☆)

Outdoor space and photo zones

The real charm of this place is the outdoor space..☆ From the railway tracks to a vintage jeep and train-shaped signs, there are so many aesthetic photo zones that make it a great place for photos. Try to get your own life-shot at this outdoor café in Paju...

The weather's been so nice lately, and being outside with a cool breeze felt amazing. The outdoor space is huge with lots of tables too, so I'd highly recommend visiting now while the weather is this good.

How many trains pass by?

For reference, I took a photo of the train schedule too. On weekdays, trains pass 8 times a day — 2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon — and even more on weekends! Even if you miss one, the next train comes by soon so you won't miss out.

I went up to the outdoor table when a train was passing and took some photos. Once a train was about to pass, everyone came up to the 2nd floor tables to watch haha. It's just a brief train passing through the bushes, but it had full-on countryside Ghibli vibes. Just a heads up, the stairs to the 2nd floor space have pretty high steps, so kids should always be accompanied by a guardian..!

Sunsets and late-night drives

I was inside for a bit, then went out and sat in the outdoor seats — the mood was great, the weather was great, everything was great. Now that the weather's cool, I'd recommend sitting outside with the wide-open view while drinking your coffee. Going around sunset would probably give you a beautiful sunset view too.

Since it's open until 2am, it would be really atmospheric to come late at night for a drive and see the night view too! If you're looking for a late-night café in Paju, definitely stop by On the Rail. Next time I'm coming back to chase the sunset :)
