Paju Korean restaurant with homemade banchan and group seating
In short
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (leaf-wrap rice) and hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) restaurant on Dolgotgi-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the deuljeongsik set for two — stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, doenjang stew, gangdoenjang, and hot stone-pot rice — and checked out the handmade banchan, the self-serve wrap vegetable corner, and the separate group-seating annex. Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a good pick for a mild, homestyle family meal near Simhaksan.

I was looking for a hearty meal near Simhaksan and ended up at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap (심학산 들꽃쌈밥).

Paju has no shortage of great restaurants, but these days it's surprisingly hard to find a place where every single side dish is properly homemade. This place had me thinking "this food is the real deal" the whole time I was eating. It's also not far from the Paju outlets, so it could be a solid choice if you're looking for a Paju outlet restaurant to hit before or after shopping.
🍚 A proper Korean set meal found near Simhaksan
Location and hours of Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap
📍 Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap / 55-10 Dolgotgi-gil, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
🕚 Hours: 11:00–21:00, weekday break time 15:30–17:00, last order 20:00
On weekends, they said there's no break time. The restaurant was spacious and felt comfortable overall, which made it a good spot for a family meal. Parking was ample too, so it was easy to visit by car.

🥢 What I ordered this time: Deuljeongsik
We ordered the deuljeongsik set, which comes with stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, doenjang stew, gangdoenjang (thick seasoned soybean paste), and stone-pot rice.

The first thing that caught my eye as soon as the table was set was the banchan (side dishes). There were quite a variety, and it wasn't just about the number of dishes — each one clearly felt homemade. Nothing was too salty or strong, so I kept reaching for more. The banchan were seriously so good~~ every single one!

🥗 Homemade skill in every single banchan
These days, at a lot of restaurants the banchan are just an afterthought to the meal, but here the side dishes alone were good enough to finish a whole bowl of rice on.

Every dish was neat and not over-seasoned, which made them easy for older folks to enjoy, and they'd suit anyone who doesn't love overly strong flavors.

There was also pumpkin porridge, and it was really smooth! Personally, I think the biggest strength here is that not just the mains but every single side dish is delicious.
And the seasoning on the main dishes — stir-fried squid and stir-fried pork — was so good. Not too salty, not too sweet, the seasoning was spot on!!! Clean flavor, easy for anyone to enjoy.

🌿 All the fresh wrap vegetables you want
True to a ssambap restaurant, there was a wide variety of wrap vegetables. Perilla leaves, lettuce, romaine, napa cabbage, chicory, red chard, and more were all prepared, so I could grab whatever I liked, and everything was fresh.
Since the wrap vegetables were available at a self-serve corner, I could take as much as I wanted without feeling self-conscious about it, which was great.

🔥 The stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid combo is a real standout
With banchan this good, I figured the mains would be great too — and yep, they really were!! So so good! Both the stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid had really delicious seasoning.

It wasn't overly spicy or intense — more of a sweetish, savory seasoning that went perfectly with rice. Mixed into plain white rice, it just disappears! There was a note saying it's even better mixing the pork and squid together, and trying it out, the sauces really did blend naturally into a richer flavor.

Piling the pork and squid onto a wrap vegetable with a bit of gangdoenjang on top was genuinely delicious. I expected the gangdoenjang to be salty, but it was actually not salty at all — just nutty and savory. They served it straight from a pot kept warm, and it was so so good!!
🥬 A few bites of good ssambap
With so many fresh wrap vegetables prepped, try building your own combination to suit your taste!

Layering lettuce and perilla leaf, adding a spoonful of rice, then piling on the tasty stir-fried pork plus a banchan or two made for one seriously loaded wrap. Some wraps I loaded up with pork, others with squid and a side dish, and even with the same set meal, the flavor changed with every combination — it was fun.

Especially since every one of the banchan here had real homemade skill behind it, layering them into the wraps was genuinely great. Crisp fresh vegetables, warm rice, and the sweet-spicy main all packed into one big bite — this is exactly how ssambap should be eaten! Since I could grab as many wrap vegetables as I wanted, I really went to town mixing things up :)
🍲 A warm doenjang stew and stone-pot rice to round it off
The doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) played its part too. Simmered warm right at the table, it tasted like homemade doenjang, not the store-bought kind. Nutty and delicious.
It stayed hot all the way through the meal, and the flavor was savory without being heavy, pairing well with the mains.

I also liked that it came with stone-pot rice instead of a regular bowl of rice. You scoop out the freshly cooked rice first, then pour water into the stone pot, and at the end you get nurungji (scorched rice). It wraps up the meal cleanly. Finishing with warm nurungji is the flavor every Korean loves!! This kind of setup made even a single meal feel like a proper treat.

👨👩👧👦 A Paju hanjeongsik spot that's also great for family meals
Overall, Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap felt less like a flashy, in-your-face restaurant and more like a Paju eatery with the kind of care you'd find in home cooking. Above all, the food itself has to be great at a restaurant, and every single banchan here was delicious — I really thought "this place genuinely knows how to cook" — and the mains, stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid, were fully satisfying too!
It didn't feel like the typical franchise-style set meal you see everywhere — it felt like I'd finally had properly handmade banchan and real Korean food again, which made it more memorable. It's a good spot to bring parents, and the menu is easy-going enough for a family meal with kids too, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Paju hanjeongsik restaurant or a Simhaksan restaurant. And if you have a Paju outlet trip planned, it's also a solid Paju outlet ssambap restaurant for a hearty meal before or after shopping.

🪑 Spacious, comfortable interior with a separate group section
Walking inside, the interior was tidier than I expected. Wood-tone tables and chairs gave the whole place a warm, comfortable feel, and there was plenty of space between tables to eat without feeling cramped.

What I especially liked was that, besides the regular seating, there's a separate space for group use! It looked great for eating together even with a larger party, making it a good option not just for family meals with parents but for gatherings or group dinners too. Baby chairs were also available, so it looked easy to visit with kids. Overall, it felt less about a flashy atmosphere and more like a Paju eatery where you can sit comfortably and enjoy proper Korean food.
💛 One-line summary
Personally, this is a place I'd want to stop by again next time I'm near Simhaksan. Every banchan has real homemade skill, and the stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid are properly delicious too. Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap really earns the phrase "this food is the real deal."
