Sinyongsan tteokbokki restaurant, 500cc beer at 7:30pm: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) restaurant near Yongsan Station and Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul. On a weekday visit at 7:30pm, the writer ordered the Hyeonseonine Combo Set for 26,000 won — tteokbokki, sundae, 3 fish cake skewers, assorted fritters and gimbap — at medium spice, with a 500cc draft beer for 4,500 won. The soupy tteokbokki stirred with self-serve fried batter flakes and the Busan-style fish cake were the standouts at Hyeonseonine.

Where is Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch? A short walk from Yongsan I'Park Mall
Today I visited Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki Yongsan Main Branch~! I usually order delivery from here all the time, but it had been a while since I went in person.
Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki is close to Yongsan Station and really close to Yongsan I'Park Mall too! It's perfect to eat here after browsing the mall, haha!

What is Hyeonseonine like at 7:30pm on a weekday?
I visited around 7:30pm on a weekday and there were SO many people!! For reference, the inside of the restaurant has a lot of tables. But when it's crowded, having a quiet conversation is a bit tough, haha (sad face).

Seeing they even have a Catch Table waitlist machine, the line must be super long on weekends! What a legendary spot!!

Ordering the 26,000 won Hyeonseonine Combo Set at the kiosk
Right at the entrance there's a kiosk where you can order all kinds of menu items! We debated between that and instant tteokbokki but ended up ordering the Hyeonseonine Combo Set instead! For reference, the price is ₩26,000!

The self-serve bar at Hyeonseonine, fried batter flakes included
Next to the kiosk there's a self-serve bar stocked with small plates, soy sauce, salt, danmuji, and even fried batter flakes you can dip into the tteokbokki sauce! (We love fried batter flakes so we piled them on, haha.)

While waiting for our Hyeonseonine Combo Set (tteokbokki, sundae, 3 fish cake skewers, assorted fritters, gimbap) we excitedly set the table in advance, haha.

What comes with the Hyeonseonine Combo Set
Finally the dishes we were waiting for showed up! Look at this — a perfect bunsik spread from a full-shot view!!

Doesn't it look SO good!!!~!! Even just from the photo you can feel how generous the portion is, right? Not just the amount but the whole thing looks delicious!!

Medium-spice soupy tteokbokki with fried batter flakes stirred in
The tteokbokki comes in 3 spice levels, and we ordered medium! It's the soupy tteokbokki style, so the broth is rich and the umami really comes through. The rice cakes are chewy and well-coated in the sweet-spicy sauce, making it hard to stop reaching for more. Sprinkling in a bit of the self-serve fried batter flakes and mixing it adds a nutty depth that makes it even tastier!!

The gimbap (seaweed rice roll) in the combo
The gimbap (seaweed rice roll) was also packed with filling and delicious🤤 The ratio of rice to filling was great, so each bite had an even mix of ingredients, plus a subtle nutty sesame oil aroma that kept me reaching for more.

Fish cake that tastes like Busan-style eomuk
The fish cake tasted like Busan-style eomuk!! It ranks among the best fish cakes I've ever had. I'm usually not a big fan of fish cake, but this one had a plump, chewy texture with the broth flavor soaked deep in — absolutely delicious!!

Fried squid and kim-mari (fried seaweed noodle rolls)
The fritters were crispy and just perfect.. The crispy outside with a moist coating stood out, and especially the fried squid — you could feel its springy texture right through the batter. The kim-mari's glass noodle filling was chewy with a lovely nutty flavor (I want to eat it again, ugh).

A 4,500 won 500cc draft beer with the tteokbokki
We ended up ordering two draft beers too! (₩4,500 for 500cc). I didn't expect much from beer at a bunsik restaurant, but it was genuinely great — refreshing and crisp, pairing perfectly with the spicy tteokbokki. My friend and I kept saying, 'this beer is insane!!' and just kept drinking.

Final verdict on Hyeonseonine after clearing every plate
We ate so well that we really cleaned every plate, haha. I've been coming here since back when it was a street-cart-style spot in front of I'Park Mall, and seeing it this packed on a weekday evening confirms it's a spot everyone's been vouching for.
Next time the instant tteokbokki and the butter garlic fries look tasty too, so I want to try more of the menu! If you're looking for a Yongsan restaurant, a Yongridan-gil restaurant, or a Yongsan tteokbokki restaurant, I highly recommend Hyeonseonine Tteokbokki!
