Gwangan Station pizza in a converted house, weekend lunch: Extra Mile

Today I wanted pizza in Gwangalli, so I went to Extra Mile, which recently opened. There are so many great restaurants in Gwangalli that it's hard to choose where to go, right? I heard this new pizza place was opened by the owners of Jeonpo's Free Will Pizza and Pickles, so I went in with high expectations. 😊

Where Extra Mile is and what the converted house feels like

Extra Mile is a pizza restaurant in Gwangalli, a 5-minute walk from Gwangan Station. It's in a converted house, so you could easily walk right past it if you're not paying attention.

Still, the stark white exterior with a blue clock made it easy to spot.

It didn't feel like an old house at all — the interior was so cleanly done up, it was really pretty.

The space inside wasn't huge, but thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows it felt open and airy, with sunlight streaming in for a bright, comfortable atmosphere.

There's a bar table too, and since it's an open kitchen you can watch the cooking happen — it was so clean that I loved it.

Decorated nicely in white and wood tones, it seemed great for a casual meal with friends, and also a lovely stop for a date in Gwangalli.

Ordering the classic combo set with a half-and-half pizza

Extra Mile has pizza, pasta, and side dishes, and since there was a set menu I ordered the classic combo set. It felt like a waste to pick just one pizza flavor, so I went half-and-half! I chose the potato + hot honey pepperoni combination, and for pasta I picked the bisque cream pasta.

When the food came out, it looked so delicious just to look at. 🤤 A lot of places charge extra for half-and-half pizzas, so I was glad there was no such charge here.

They said the pizza dough is house-made and low-temperature fermented right at the restaurant — it's not thick like wood-fired oven pizza, and the toppings were just the right amount.

How the potato pizza tastes

The potato pizza has a soft, mild flavor. The dough was chewy, and the fried julienned potato added a crispy, nutty taste that gave it a jeon (savory pancake)-like feel — I really enjoyed it.

How the hot honey pepperoni tastes

The pepperoni was savory and salty with a real umami kick — definitely tasted like a proper pizza. The chili wasn't as spicy as I expected, and the mascarpone cheese went surprisingly well with it!

The two flavors had such different vibes that switching back and forth kept it from getting boring. It wasn't a pizza piled high with toppings just for show — the dough and toppings balanced well, and the combination of ingredients felt familiar yet fresh!

Is the bisque cream pasta worth ordering?

And then the bisque cream pasta 🍝 we ordered along with it. It had that rich, nutty bisque flavor, which paired well with the pizza too.

The sauce was thick and clung well to the noodles, so the first bite delivered a pretty rich flavor, and alternating with the pizza made for a nice combination.

They told us not to mix in the gamtae (dried seaweed flakes) but to eat it on top instead. I thought it might taste fishy or make the dish greasy, but I was surprised how well it went together. The shrimp were big and the bisque sauce was quite rich, so I'd recommend it if you like seafood!

Both the pizza dough and the pasta sauces are made in-house, and it didn't feel like a typical Western-style restaurant at all. It felt like they were cooking in a way that really brought out the character of the ingredients.

Final verdict: is Extra Mile the Gwangalli Italian spot to pick?

If you want to enjoy pizza, pasta, and side dishes like salad all in one place in Gwangalli, this is a place I'd recommend without hesitation!

Since there were only two of us, we could only manage the pasta and pizza, but it seemed like it would be great for a group of 3-4 to also try the various side dishes.

Above all, the space itself was clean and stylish, and the owner was so kind that I had a pleasant time throughout the meal. If you're craving pizza or pasta in Gwangalli, looking for a comfortable spot to eat with friends, or hunting for a good-atmosphere date restaurant in Gwangalli, I think Extra Mile is worth a visit. For someone who wanted to try a pizza with a special house-made dough, this was a memorable Gwangalli pizza place. :)
