Yongsan tteokbokki spot seated at 11:30am with sundae: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is an instant tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake) restaurant on Yongridan-gil in Yongsan, Seoul, 180m from Sinyongsan Station Exit 6. Seated at 11:30am just before the waitlist filled up, we ordered instant tteokbokki for two, one serving of sundae (Korean blood sausage) and a fried rice finish, with self-serve fried batter flakes and the free boiled eggs and fried mandu. Spice comes in three levels, so even people who can't take heat are fine at Hyeonseonine — just go a little before the lunch rush.

I visited Hyeonseonine, the first place that comes to mind for tteokbokki in Yongridan-gil (Yongsan's dining street). It's been featured on TV and YouTube plenty of times and is famous enough to get a wait even on weekdays.

Here's my review after eating instant tteokbokki + sundae, and finishing it all off with fried rice.

I went around 11:30am and the seats that were still open when I walked in filled up fast, and a waitlist formed 🥲

Inside Hyeonseonine: seating and the self-serve bar
The interior of Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is bigger than I expected, with plenty of tables. Each table has its own burner so you can cook the instant tteokbokki right at your seat.

Ordering is done through a kiosk, and pickled radish and fried batter flakes are self-serve — the batter flakes to add to the tteokbokki are a must!

Even though the restaurant is spacious, watch out for the wait 👀 Especially on weekends or during lunch/dinner hours, registering on Catch Table seems essential!
Hyeonseonine menu: instant tteokbokki for two plus sundae
Hyeonseonine serves a variety of bunsik (Korean street food) dishes together — regular tteokbokki, instant tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, and more. You can also choose regular tteokbokki cooked the instant way, depending on your preference!

The tteokbokki is delicious at Hyeonseonine, but everything else is great too — it's hard to go wrong. Especially the sundae, which is so good I order it every time I visit — it's a must!

We ordered 2 servings of instant tteokbokki + 1 serving of sundae + fried rice!

How spicy is it? Hyeonseonine's three spice levels
One good thing about Hyeonseonine's instant tteokbokki is that you can adjust the spice level: mild, medium, or spicy 👍

I grabbed some pickled radish and made sure to get plenty of fried batter flakes to add to the tteokbokki. Adding batter flakes while the tteokbokki is boiling makes it even tastier.

A boiled egg and fried mandu come free with the instant tteokbokki order — dip them in the tteokbokki sauce and it's next-level good.

Is the fried rice finish worth ordering?
The fried rice, which I was trying for the first time, exceeded expectations.

Frying rice in the leftover sauce after finishing the tteokbokki brings out even more savory depth on top of the sweet-and-spicy flavor — truly a Korean-style dessert finish.
Even after already filling up on tteokbokki and sundae, I kept reaching for more. You really have to try it.
Final thoughts: the best time to visit Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch
I've visited Hyeonseonine many times over the years, and it's always consistently delicious no matter when I go. There's clearly a reason it's stayed a long-running favorite in Yongsan 🤔

Personally, I highly recommend the ⭐️instant tteokbokki + fried rice combo⭐️ over the regular tteokbokki. I went in around 11:30am and the seats filled up fast with a wait forming shortly after, so I'd recommend arriving a bit early during meal hours.

If you're looking for a tteokbokki spot near Yongsan Station, this is the first place that comes to mind. If you're near Yongsan Station craving instant tteokbokki, I recommend Hyeonseonine. There can be a wait during lunch hours, so go a little early and enjoy a hearty meal all the way through the fried rice :)
