Jung-gu Korean restaurant for barley rice sets with parents: Yangjaeok
In short
Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch is a pork gomtang (clear pork soup) and boribap (barley rice) restaurant in the basement food hall of Lotte Department Store's main branch in Jung-gu, Seoul, 151 meters from Exit 7 of Euljiro 1-ga Station. After shopping, three of us ordered separately: a pork gomtang set for 20,000 won, pork gomtang on its own for 14,000 won, and a yeolmu boribap (young radish barley rice) set for 19,000 won. Yangjaeok lets you choose a single bowl or a full set depending on your appetite, and it is rare to find a proper soup-and-rice meal with white rice inside a department store.

Mom, Dad and I went shopping at Lotte Department Store and were about to head home when I started getting hungry. We decided to grab dinner before leaving, and that's how we ended up at Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch! If you're looking for a Korean restaurant near Euljiro 1(il)-ga station, this review might come in handy haha.

Yangjaeok is located in the food hall on the basement 1st floor of Lotte Department Store's main branch. Not having to leave the store to eat after shopping was really convenient!

We stopped by for a simple meal before heading home, and since they had everything from gomtang (bone soup) to boribap (barley rice), my parents — who have different tastes — could each pick what they wanted haha.
Pork gomtang set ₩20,000 / Pork gomtang single dish ₩14,000 / Yeolmu boribap set ₩19,000

Pork gomtang single bowl or full set: what is the difference?
The difference between Yangjaeok's pork gomtang single dish (₩14,000) and set (₩20,000) is the side dishes. In the photo, the left is the single dish and the right is the set — both come with napa cabbage kimchi, soy-seasoned radish, salted octopus, and cheongyang chili pesto. The set adds fresh tofu and stir-fried pork! So the difference is basically whether you just want the soup or the soup plus sides!
I liked dipping the fresh tofu in the soy sauce — it was even better that way haha. Mom and Dad said they liked having the stir-fried pork as a side. Funny how even sharing the same table, our tastes are so different lol.

How the pork gomtang tastes: milky broth and thinly sliced pork
Yangjaeok's pork gomtang comes with a milky white broth and thinly sliced meat. I love it when pork gomtang broth is milky like this... and the meat was sliced so thin it was tender enough to eat in one bite with the soup and rice — so soft haha.
You can't have soup and rice without white rice, right — heart. Koreans really do get their strength from rice!!

Myeongdong's Lotte Department Store has tons of desserts and great restaurants, but there really aren't many places to get proper soup and rice with white rice — which makes Yangjaeok that much more precious, heart.

Yeolmu boribap set, 19,000 won, served with gomtang broth
Yangjaeok's yeolmu boribap (barley rice with young radish greens) set is ₩19,000 and the portion of barley rice is quite generous. It came topped with various vegetables and even a soft-boiled egg! My mom took one look and said, 'This is presented really nicely' haha.
A good bibim dish really shines when it's mixed well lol. Shake shake ~ somehow it always tastes better when Mom mixes it lol. I don't like it when barley rice gets mushy after mixing, but the seasoning sauce wasn't watery and there was plenty of sesame oil, so it mixed up fluffy and light 🩵.

The yeolmu boribap set also comes with fresh tofu and stir-fried pork like the other set... but here it also comes with gomtang broth on the side!! My mom said having a spoonful of broth between bites of barley rice kept it from feeling too heavy on the throat. She loves vegetables too, so she really enjoyed it!

Is Yangjaeok worth it for a meal with parents?
Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch served a neatly presented gomtang and even had boribap, so all three of us left satisfied! If you eat small like me, go for the single dish; if you want the sides too, go for the set — such a good option ★

We ate so well — gah, a proper soup-and-rice restaurant inside a department store is the best 🤍 If you're shopping at Lotte and craving Korean food, come on over here!
