Itaewon bar with beef tripe stew and pa-kimchi: Nebeonjjaejip
In short
Nebeonjjaejip is a Korean bar near Itaewon Station Exit 4 in Yongsan, Seoul, specialising in gopdoritang (spicy chicken and beef tripe stew). On a weekday evening with no wait, the hanwoo beef tripe padoritang for two cost 37,000 won plus 2,000 won for udon noodles, with yukhoe yubu-chobap (raw beef on seasoned fried tofu pouches) at 12,000 won; the mildest of the three spice levels, Shin Ramyun, was easy even for weak spice eaters, and the glass noodles already in the pot made extra noodles optional. The tangy pa-kimchi cutting the richness of the beef tripe is what makes Nebeonjjaejip worth the trip.

When the weather turns cold you start craving that red broth, right...! (Or is it just me haha) So I was looking around for somewhere warm and red-souped, and heard this place was one of Seoul's top 3 gopdoritang spots featured on Hangout with Yoo — so I went to Nebeonjjaejip (네번째집).

Nebeonjjaejip is close to Itaewon Station Exit 4, so it was easy to find!

Is there a wait at Nebeonjjaejip, and what is the room like?
I visited on a weekday evening and got in with no wait at all!! They do have remote line-up through Table-ing, so if there's a wait when you go, I'd recommend joining the line ahead of time.

The retro, old-school pub vibe hits you the moment you walk in!! There are about 8 tables — 5 for two people and 3 for four.

The walls were covered in graffiti, and there are markers in the corner of the shop so you can add your own haha

Apparently it was also on Hangout with Yoo...! Maybe that's why there are signatures from Yoo Jae-suk and Mijoo on the wall — pretty neat to see.

Nebeonjjaejip menu and the three spice levels
The signature menu has three types: hanwoo daechang padoritang, hanwoo daechang kadoritang, and hanwoo daechang gopdoritang, with a total of 3 spice levels (Shin Ramyun, Buldak, Dijinda). Gopdoritang is the base menu, padoritang has pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi) added, and kadoritang has curry added!!

They're also running a review event where you can get a free Cass draft beer or a highball, so keep that in mind!

If you want to add chicken or daechang, it's only possible with your first order, so I'd recommend adding them right away.

There's also a recommended combo, so take note!!
- Hanwoo daechang padoritang for two (37,000) + udon noodle add-on (2,000)
- Yukhoe yubu-chobap (12,000)

One unusual thing — they serve egg crackers as the basic side snack!! Hadn't had egg crackers in ages and they were so good haha, I demolished them,,,

Hanwoo beef tripe padoritang for two, 37,000 won: how hot is Shin Ramyun level?
I ordered the Nebeonjjaejip hanwoo daechang padoritang for two (37.0) with udon noodles (2.0) added. I'm a spice wimp so I didn't hesitate and went with the Shin Ramyun spice level. Since it's padoritang, pa-kimchi is piled on top — well-fermented pa-kimchi — and that tangy kimchi completely cut through the richness of the daechang (beef intestine) and chicken thigh!!

Doesn't the broth look super refreshing and rich just from looking at it? A visual that just calls for a drink haha, so I couldn't resist and ordered soju too, ha,,

Daechang + chicken thigh + glass noodles = knockout. I was worried it'd be too spicy but it was just the right level of spicy. Slightly milder than actual Shin Ramyun, just right for slurping down happily.

And the portion is huge!! I honestly didn't realize glass noodles were already in there when I added the udon noodles — it would've been plenty filling without them...! The two of us ate this much and were completely stuffed.

Yukhoe yubu-chobap, 12,000 won: eating it with the stew
Nebeonjjaejip's yukhoe yubu-chobap (12.0) is another recommended menu, served as a set of 4. I ordered it because it was part of the recommended combo, and isn't the presentation just gorgeous?! It's a plump fried tofu pocket sushi style, so the amount of yukhoe (beef tartare) is very generous. Every bite had plenty of yukhoe — such good value👍

Look at that visual,, such a perfect combo,, Usually yubu-chobap has plain white rice inside, but at Nebeonjjaejip they use seasoned rice for the yubu-chobap! Tastes like the gopdoritang seasoning, perfectly balanced and so delicious. Something crunchy — radish maybe?! — in the rice gave it good texture too, and the seasoning is slightly spicy but the yukhoe balances it out — the two together were just perfect harmony?! It was also great dipped in the gopdoritang broth!! Highly recommend eating these two together👍
