₩45,000 smoked BBQ set for two in Namyeong, Seoul: Byeoljin Hwarogui

In short

Byeoljin Hwarogui is an oak-smoked charcoal BBQ restaurant on Hangang-daero 77-gil in Yongsan, Seoul, right in front of Namyeong Station. Two people ordered the medium smoked BBQ set for 45,000 won, which brought pork ribs, pork belly and chicken plus grilled vegetables, along with a complimentary pork and kimchi jjaglagi (thick kimchi stew). The meat arrives already smoked, so grilling takes only a few minutes, and the belly and chicken were tender enough to make this set just right for two.

Byeoljin Hwarogui's signature smoked BBQ shot

While hunting for a good BBQ spot near Namyeong Station, I ended up at somewhere a bit different this time — Byeoljin Hwarogui, a BBQ restaurant near Namyeong Station! Unlike your typical pork belly or beef grill place, this one lets you grill smoked BBQ over a charcoal brazier, which is exactly what caught my eye.

The inside of Byeoljin Hwarogui. It kind of feels like being at a campsite, and the soft lighting gives it a nice, upscale touch too. There are plenty of seats, so lots of groups come here, and there's a curtained-off room in the back, which is popular for office dinners!

We'd made a reservation ahead of time, and sure enough, our table was set up with our name on it. That little touch made me kind of happy haha.

Ordering the medium smoked BBQ set (45,000 won)

Byeoljin Hwarogui's menu. They have BBQ set menus, but also plenty of individual dishes and sides, so worth checking those out too! We went with the medium smoked BBQ set. Since the meat is oak-smoked before grilling over charcoal, I was really curious how different it would be from a regular BBQ place haha.

Side dishes and the free pork and kimchi stew

The basic side dish spread at Byeoljin Hwarogui. They really loaded up the banchan — lettuce and black sesame salad, pickled onion, myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaves), mul kimchi (watery kimchi), and a bunch of sauces!

And on top of that, they threw in a pork kimchi jjaglagi (thick kimchi stew) on the house — nice one, Byeoljin~👍🏻

Complimentary pork kimchi jjaglagi (stew)

The kimchi jjaglagi had thick chunks of pork in it. It was free so I wasn't expecting much, but honestly it was way better than expected..... the kind of flavor that makes you want to mix it into rice 😋

After ordering, the charcoal was brought out, along with garlic and olives to grill on the coals.

What comes in the 45,000 won medium smoked BBQ set

The medium smoked BBQ set, ₩45,000. After a short wait, it came out on a big plate with meat and vegetables together.

The visual alone is pretty generous! The smoked meat had that appetizing color that makes you grab your phone the second it hits the table haha. It wasn't just meat sitting there alone either — mushroom, eggplant, tomato, and rice cake came along for grilling too, which was a nice touch.

Oak smoke and how the pre-smoked meat is grilled

The real highlight of Byeoljin Hwarogui's smoked BBQ is definitely the smoke!! Since the meat goes through oak smoking, a gentle smoky aroma rose up while grilling haha.

Oak-smoked meat placed on the charcoal brazier

Since the meat comes already pre-smoked, grilling at the table basically just means reheating it nicely over the charcoal!

How the pork ribs, pork belly and chicken tasted

The meat came in three types — pork rib, pork belly, and chicken! Loved getting to try a variety in one meal 🥰

Thick-cut smoked pork belly
Tender cuts of smoked chicken

The pork belly and chicken were the tastiest of the three!! The belly was sliced thick, and the chicken was all tender cuts, so I ate it up happily 😛 Dipping it in the mustard sauce that comes standard makes it even better!! So tender and so good ㅜㅜ

Is the medium set enough for two people?

This was my first time at a smoked BBQ place, so I was curious how it'd turn out, and Byeoljin Hwarogui exceeded expectations! The medium smoked BBQ set was just right for two people. And since the meat comes pre-smoked, it doesn't take long to grill and the flavor is satisfying, so I'd recommend it! Good for office dinners, and good for when you want something a little different — if you're looking for a restaurant near Namyeong Station, Byeoljin Hwarogui is the one to try!
