Incheon bulgogi restaurant, broth shabu finish: Dongchuwon Bulgogi

In short

Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a Seoul-style soupy bulgogi restaurant on Hagik-soro in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, near Incheon District Court and Singi Market. After running the Songdo Marathon, the writer arrived right at opening and ordered the Korean beef bulgogi set for two at 55,800 won, working through a morning-roll burger, gat kimchi pickles (mustard leaf), and a shabu finish in the leftover broth. With a private room on site, Dongchuwon Bulgogi suits family gatherings and meals out with parents.

Hagik-dong bulgogi restaurant Dongchuwon Bulgogi! Let's start with the intro video.

Hi, this is Chugu, traveling by running. When I'm looking for somewhere to eat with family, the menu matters, but so does whether elders and kids can eat comfortably together, whether the place feels roomy, and whether there's space for a group. This time I visited Dongchuwon Bulgogi, known as a bulgogi spot in Hagik-dong, Incheon.

It's close to Sinjang Market too, so a lot of people looking for Sinjang Market restaurants come here, and with its private room it's also well known as a spot for family gatherings in Incheon or meals with parents. That day we ordered one of the signature menus, the Korean beef bulgogi set, and dug in properly.

Adding energy with Korea's restorative cooking

Visiting a bulgogi place like this with family over the Chuseok holiday sounds really nice.

It's also easy to combine with Sinjang Market, making it a good choice when planning a family meal out around Hagik-dong or Juan. And knowing it's a Blue Ribbon-listed restaurant with food cooked by a master craftsman adds even more trust.

Seating inside Dongchuwon Bulgogi

We ran the Songdo Marathon and arrived right when they opened.

Even at that early hour, a lot of seats already had reservation cards on them. The room in the back was already fully booked. These days, when eating out with parents, it's not just about how the food tastes but also having a space where you can talk comfortably.

They were also selling their own in-house-developed items for takeout. It was so good I almost bought some on the way out.

We had a reservation too. So let's take our seats and start eating.

Dongchuwon's Korean beef bulgogi is served the Seoul-style hot pot way, with broth. As the bulgogi and vegetables cook together, the meat flavor seeps into the broth, giving it a whole different charm from bulgogi that's simply grilled crisp.

Since we ordered the set, they also gave us burger-style bread so you can turn the bulgogi into a burger. Stuffing well-cooked bulgogi and vegetables into the bun, it was basically a bulgogi burger.

With the Korean beef bulgogi piled generously on the grill, it looked delicious just from the visuals.

The real MVP among the side dishes was this gat kimchi jangajji (pickled mustard leaf kimchi). Eating one alongside the bulgogi kept things from feeling heavy, so I kept reaching for more.

Rather than being strongly seasoned from the start, the flavor deepened naturally as the meat and vegetables cooked and the broth simmered, which made for a fun, slow-cooked eating experience.

Being able to eat bulgogi with warm broth made it a great fit for parents who love Korean food.

The staff carefully laid the meat on the grill for us, so we could just relax and start eating.

How the Korean beef bulgogi tastes, and the order to eat it in

Once the bulgogi was cooked enough, we picked up meat and vegetables together. True to Korean beef, the texture was tender, and the sweet bulgogi seasoning paired well with the warm broth.

As you eat, the broth at the bottom of the grill picks up flavor from the meat and vegetables and gets richer than it started.

So it was nice to focus on the meat early on, then switch to enjoying the broth and vegetables together partway through.

For families who prefer familiar, comforting Korean food over something more intense, this would be an especially satisfying visit.

And of course, bulgogi means pouring the broth all over your rice and mixing it up — pure deliciousness, right?

Eating a big handful of meat together with the vegetables is also great.

At the end, we added plenty of broth and ate it shabu-style.

Cooking the meat thoroughly in the warm broth and eating it with rice made for a hearty weekend lunch spread.

Naengmyeon served as the finish to the set

We finished with naengmyeon. Even though it's a bulgogi place, they also sell mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) individually! A great meal, right down to the finish.

Is Dongchuwon Bulgogi a good spot for a family gathering?

Looking for a bulgogi restaurant in Hagik-dong, Dongchuwon Bulgogi turned out to be a great place to visit with family. Beyond the generous Seoul-style Korean beef bulgogi, it was fun eating the broth and vegetables together, and the morning bread let us enjoy the bulgogi in a different way, keeping the meal from feeling one-note.

With a private room available, it seems like a great match for anyone looking for a family gathering restaurant in Incheon or a place to take their parents.
