Spicy ppal-o-myeon and cheese sticks at Simsimsangin, an Incheon bar
In short
Simsimsangin Incheon Nonhyeon is a traditional Korean liquor bar (jeontongju pub) a 4-minute walk from Exit 4 of Incheon Nonhyeon Station. The order was yukhoe (raw beef) done the classic way at 23,900 won, spicy ppal-o-myeon at 15,900 won, a cheese stick set at 9,900 won and plum wine at 13,000 won — the ppal-o-myeon runs genuinely hot for anyone who avoids spice, while the yukhoe and cheese sticks cool it down. Simsimsangin Incheon Nonhyeon suits a night of mixing traditional liquor with a spread of anju (drinking snacks).

Inside Simsimsangin: seating and room for group dinners
They say the name Simsimsangin means putting your heart into serving every single guest — and the soft indirect lighting on the outside already gives off a sense of quality.
Walking in, it felt very pojangmacha (street tent bar)-esque, all warm brown tones, with lighting soft enough — not too bright — that everything looks a little prettier once you've had a drink haha. The tables can flex from 2-seaters to 4-seaters to group seating, which was great! It fits up to 20 people, so it's a solid pick for an Incheon Nonhyeon office dinner or an after-party gathering space!!

Happy hour deals and the full bill at Simsimsangin
Simsimsangin Incheon Nonhyeon also runs a happy hour — if you visit between 5 and 7, there's a soju & beer for ₩3,000 event, which in this era of sky-high prices is honestly a total steal haha. They've also got a wide range of traditional liquors and new soju varieties, so there's plenty to try.
You order through the kiosk set up at each table, and the popular hanpan (one-pan) dishes as well as the single main anju are split into 'red' (spicy) and 'white' (non-spicy) categories, plus there are plenty of light side dishes too — perfect for playing from your first round all the way through the night at this Incheon Nonhyeon spot.

That's what we ordered!

Plum wine, 13,000 won: traditional liquor with a strong plum aroma
The basic snack was the usual crackers, and the drinks arrived first — in such pretty glasses that pairing them with the basic snack to start felt just right. It's not exactly low proof, but the plum aroma is so strong that even people who don't like soju can enjoy this traditional liquor lightly and stylishly.

Two dishes came out first? The yukhoe is a new menu item that just came out, so I ordered it thinking it'd be a simple anju — but it turned out way more substantial than expected!?

Ppal-o-myeon, 15,900 won: spicy rabokki with 6 fish cake skewers
Ppal-o-myeon is sweet-and-spicy rabokki (ramen + tteokbokki) loaded with 6 fish cake skewers, so the portion is really generous for the price haha. It even comes with ramen noodles, so it works as a full meal too! It comes pre-cooked once, so they told us we could eat it right after it comes to a rolling boil on high heat.

I tried the ramen noodles from the ppal-o-myeon first, before they got too soft — and even though they call it sweet-and-spicy, lol, it was way too spicy for me, someone who can't handle heat...>< The fish cake was also very well seasoned, and the more you eat, the spicier it gets, until your whole mouth is on fire. A real wake-you-up kind of flavor lol

Yukhoe done the classic way, 23,900 won: the new August menu item
What do you need when things get spicy? Something sweet~~ For the yukhoe, you pop the yolk and mix it thoroughly with the pear and gim garu (seaweed flakes). This yukhoe is a fresh new menu item that only came out in August.

Does the sweetness of the yolk combined with the gim garu even need explaining... The yukhoe was very fresh too, and the seasoning was evenly spread all over, which really helped calm down the fiery heat from the ppal-o-myeon! No wonder Simsimsangin is such an anju hotspot in Incheon Nonhyeon.

Cheese stick set, 9,900 won: 6 cheese sticks with Cajun fries
Still, I felt like I needed backup... so I ordered the cheese stick set!! lol Some plain fried food should help wash out the spiciness, right!?!? lol The set came with 6 cheese sticks total, and underneath, a hearty base of Cajun fries — a fry lover's dream at this Incheon Nonhyeon restaurant! They give you chili sauce and ketchup on the side to dip according to your taste.

Since it just came out of the fryer piping hot, the cheese stretches out just as well as a fast-food chain's, super satisfying to watch>< And the fries are just... total fry perfection lol. If you're looking for a good spot for food or traditional liquor in Incheon Nonhyeon, how about a drink at Simsimsangin Incheon Nonhyeon?
