A true survivor in the ever-changing bar streets of Seomyeon — 10 years and counting! Here's my very satisfying meal review from Mokhwa Silbi 💜 There's an event going on and the food setup is great, so I recommend it 100%.

What kind of pub is Mokhwa Silbi in Seomyeon, Busan?

Exterior of Mokhwa Silbi in a Seomyeon alley

There aren't many old-school bars left in Seomyeon, but Mokhwa Silbi has held its spot for over 10 years. It's tucked away in an alley, but people kept streaming in after 6 pm 😋 As expected in Seomyeon there's no parking lot, but you can use a nearby paid lot. Still, since it's a bar, I'd recommend taking public transit if you can!

Indoor-style outdoor seating at Mokhwa Silbi

Mokhwa Silbi in Seomyeon also has an outdoor-style seating setup. But it's not fully open-air — it's indoor seating that looks out onto the street, so the weather doesn't affect you and you still get that outdoor vibe. Nice bonus.

The dim interior gives it an even better mood... 💜 There are about 6 seats, and the cozy atmosphere fits perfectly. Honestly a solid pick for a date spot among Seomyeon bars too.

Cream cheese shrimp fondue, 30,000 won with tortilla pizza and rolls

Table setup with the ordered dishes at Mokhwa Silbi

What I ordered: octopus stir-fry on hot stone ₩28,000 / cream cheese shrimp fondue ₩30,000 / soy sauce egg rice ₩4,500

Basic side dishes: acorn jelly and pink sausage

The basic side dishes were mukbap-style acorn jelly and pink sausage. Haven't had pink sausage in a while, kind of nostalgic haha. Exactly the kind of taste you want from a starter dish — pass! A bit of a bummer start since I drove and couldn't drink ㅠ

Cream cheese shrimp fondue served with tortilla pizza and dinner rolls

Cream cheese shrimp fondue ₩30,000. Thanks to arriving right at opening, it came out not long after ordering. It's not just the shrimp fondue — it comes with tortilla pizza + dinner rolls + pickles, such a generous setup 🤤

Cream cheese shrimp fondue piled high with cheese

Shrimp fondue piled high with mozzarella and cream cheese. Once it starts melting, the owner comes over with a torch to give it that charred flavor!

Shrimp fondue torched for a charred flavor
Cream cheese shrimp fondue finished with parsley

Finished off with parsley, and the cream cheese shrimp fondue looks even more delicious!

The cheese was bubbling hot, but that means the sauce soaked really well into the shrimp — just blow on it a bit and eat. The shrimp were a nice bite-sized portion. Plump, juicy texture that pairs well with the cream cheese, and it's smooth without being greasy — a flavor pretty much everyone would like.

Dinner roll dunked into the cream sauce

Once you've cleared out the shrimp, the classic move is to dunk the dinner rolls that come with it into the cream sauce. If you soak them ahead of time, the sauce gets even richer, and by the time you eat it the texture is genuinely amazing 🤤 You can get one refill on the rolls, so eat up! The owner was so kind, explaining things throughout the meal — it made the whole dining experience really pleasant 💜

Tortilla pizza served alongside the fondue

The fact that tortilla pizza comes with the fondue set too — unreal ㅠ I can't even imagine how much they're giving for the price

A slice of tortilla pizza topped with cream cheese shrimp

The pizza is great on its own, or piled with the cream cheese shrimp for double the deliciousness. The softness gets maxed out and it's just melt-in-your-mouth good 😋

How does the 28,000 won stone-plate giant octopus stir-fry taste?

Octopus stir-fry served on a hot stone plate
Octopus stir-fry with shrimp, king oyster mushrooms, and rice cakes

Octopus stir-fry on hot stone ₩28,000. Exactly as the name says — giant octopus stir-fried and served on a hot stone plate. Came out on a stone plate so it felt more like a dedicated octopus restaurant than a bar. Loaded with shrimp, king oyster mushrooms, rice cakes, and green onion too — a magic stone plate where there's always something left to grab, no matter how much you fish out haha.

Plump giant octopus with glass noodles

A visual that makes you second-guess whether it's octopus or squid ✨ Plump enough that even cutting into it felt satisfying — this is Seomyeon-style octopus stir-fry. There's a glass noodle base underneath, and the owner recommended pulling it up to the top so it doesn't get soggy — trimmed the octopus and topped it with the noodles, all set!

The sauce tastes like the old-school tteokbokki sauce from elementary school days. Sweetness hits first, then a slight spiciness kicks in as you keep eating. Not too spicy, just pleasantly kicked-up — good for pretty much anyone! The gorgeous visual makes you forget whether you ordered octopus stir-fry or a full seafood stir-fry, so pretty 😋

Why the 4,500 won soy sauce egg rice is worth adding

Soy sauce egg rice topped with a runny yolk

Soy sauce egg rice ₩4,500. Rice is a must with octopus stir-fry, so I ordered the soy sauce egg rice. It came out in a bigger bowl than I expected, made me happy haha

The yolk was still perfectly intact, making for a great soy sauce egg rice.

Piling the giant octopus onto the egg rice and taking a bite — the plain rice mixed with the sweet-spicy sauce gives that dopamine-hitting flavor, so satisfying!

Is Mokhwa Silbi worth a visit? Final verdict

Table view with both ordered dishes at Mokhwa Silbi
  • Mokhwa Silbi, a Seomyeon bar that's held its ground for over 10 years
  • Two free lemon tower highballs if you visit before 6:30 pm
  • A generously loaded cream cheese shrimp fondue with shrimp, dinner rolls, and tortilla pizza
  • Octopus stir-fry on a hot stone with plump octopus and shrimp
  • A cozy indoor-outdoor seating area with old-school charm

From the side dishes to the service, everything was full and generous, making it a great place for a meal-plus-drinks combo! The taste and atmosphere are both great, but honestly the friendly owner is what I hope makes this place even more famous haha. I definitely want to come back and try the chicken feet and millefeuille nabe next time 😋
