Karai paitan milder than Shin Ramyun at an Eunpyeong ramen bar: Oreno

As the weather got a bit cooler I started craving hot broth and went looking for a good ramen place, so I visited Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong, a well-known ramen spot in Eunpyeong-gu !!

Where is Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong, and is there parking?

Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong is at 366 Bulgwangcheon-gil, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, South Korea, and the storefront looks like the photo. The sign is red so it stands out from far away haha

You can park right next to the restaurant. Looks like there's room for about 2 cars !! If there's no spot, use a nearby public parking lot, and you can also enjoy a walk along Bulgwangcheon stream.

The menu at Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong is simple !! Tori paitan is 13,000 won, karai paitan (spicy) is 13,000 won, and a soft-boiled egg add-on is 1,000 won.

We ordered both the tori paitan and the karai paitan !

Bar counter seats and the open kitchen

There's a bar table around the kitchen and also a table for 4. Since it's an open kitchen, if you sit at the bar you can watch the whole cooking process clearly. I peeked in and the kitchen was kept spotless, so I ate with peace of mind haha

Every table has tissues, side dish bowls, a glass cup, radish pickles, and water. Easy to refill and everything was kept clean, which I really appreciated !! I care a lot about cleanliness haha

The water had a toasty flavor, kind of like green tea water. I really love that .. it feels like they put thought into even the water, so I sipped away happily while waiting for the food.

Free rice and noodle refills, plus kimchi

If you order one menu item per person, you get a free noodle or rice refill ! I figured I'd ask for a refill if the portion felt small lol

Also, kimchi is only served if you ask, so if you want some, just tell the staff ~~

The two bowls of ramen arrived ! We ordered two different menus but honestly couldn't tell which was which ~~ lol The staff explained while serving and placed each bowl at the right seat haha At first I thought they'd brought the same dish twice because of all the foam lol

Tori paitan: how is the chicken breast this soft?

The first thing we ate was the tori paitan (13,000 won) ! It's a deep bone broth loaded with all kinds of ingredients.

The toppings were wood ear mushrooms, scallions, chicken breast, and a soft-boiled egg. The wood ear mushrooms had a fun crunchy chew, and the chicken breast was ... the softest chicken breast I've ever had !!!!!!!! Actually most ramen has chashu pork, so I was surprised to see chicken breast instead, but it was so tender I was genuinely shocked ...!!!

I usually prefer soft-boiled eggs over fully cooked ones, and this was exactly the yolk I love, so I really enjoyed it haha

Is the karai paitan really as spicy as Shin Ramyun?

Once you skim off the foam on the karai paitan, there's a red broth underneath. Staff said it's about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, but I thought it was milder than that haha

Eating radish and kimchi in between refreshed my mouth and made the meal even tastier haha I actually wanted to get a refill too, but I finished the whole bowl and was too full lol

A tip worth knowing before you go

Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong uses an unmanned ticket machine ordering system, so it gave me the same feeling as ramen shops I visited on trips to Japan — a fun, different experience haha

If you sit at the bar table you can watch the cooking process, so solo diners shouldn't get bored. Noodle or broth refills are free, so keep that in mind — big eaters can visit without worry.

Final verdict on Oreno Ramen Eunpyeong

If you're in Eunpyeong-gu looking for a rich, filling bowl of ramen, I'd recommend Oreno Ramen. My one small regret was that the toppings on the two menus were pretty similar, so I'd love to see a menu with more variety next time.

Still, it's a great place to pair with a walk along Bulgwangcheon stream haha Since it's chicken-broth based, it's not greasy and eats clean, which was another plus. If you're passing by Saejeol Station and craving ramen, I'd recommend stopping in !! It's also perfect for anyone craving hot broth as the weather turns cooler.
