Paldo Ppyeogui in Suyeong: spicy bone grill with cream pasta

Lately, whenever stress piles up, I find myself craving something spicy. This day was one of those — too many little things weighing on my mind — so I went to Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch to properly sweat it out with spicy food.ᐟ.ᐟ I thought this place only did bone grill, but I'd heard they also have a set with cream pasta, so I was curious to try it.

Walking into Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch, I saw everyone from group tables to couples. The tables were spaced generously apart too, so eating didn't feel cramped at all. They had kids' chairs on hand and disposable gloves set aside, which made eating the bone grill much easier.

Pasta SET Small for 43,000 won and the Kelly draft beer 2+1 deal

There were two of us, so we ordered the Pasta SET Small.

And on top of that, they were running a Kelly draft beer 2+1 promotion, and there was no way I could pass that up…🍺 2+1 is just too good to walk away from, so in the end we ordered a round together.

The Pasta SET Small comes with paldo bone grill + paldo cream pasta, priced at ₩43,000. For the bone grill flavor, you can choose salt-grilled, soy sauce, mild-spicy, or spicy. We were told mild-spicy is roughly Shin Ramyun level and spicy is roughly Buldak (fire noodle) level, so we picked mild-spicy without much hesitation. Switching to the extreme-spicy option costs extra.

Side dishes and the complimentary steamed egg

Not long after ordering, the side dishes and steamed egg came out first. Pickled radish, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), potato salad, and coleslaw all arrived together, and steamed egg is provided as standard.

The fluffy steamed egg was tastier than I expected, so my chopsticks kept drifting back to it between bites of the bone grill.

Palm-sized bones: how much meat is actually on them?

Finally, the bone grill arrived. I was surprised at how big a single bone was — genuinely palm-sized in person, so even before eating I could tell the portion wasn't going to be small. More importantly, there was quite a lot of meat attached. Since it comes already cooked, you can dig in right away, and if it cools down partway through, they'll reheat it for you, which was a nice touch.

The meat was tender rather than chewy or dry. A light poke with the chopsticks and it came right off the bone, making it easy to pick apart.

Dipping the meat into the spicy sauce really does feel like it melts the stress away.

How to eat the Bushman bread with the bone grill

Personally, the fun part was figuring out how to use the Bushman bread. It comes included with the set, and while it's fine to eat plain, I tried the method the staff recommended.

Spread cream cheese on the bread, top it with coleslaw, and then add a piece of bone grill meat on top.

The soft cream cheese and crunchy coleslaw worked better with the spicy meat than I expected. Dipping the bread into the sauce when the spice kicked in was also pretty good.

How much cream pasta comes with the set?

And then the cream pasta that came alongside. Since it's part of a set, I assumed the portion would be small, but it was actually more generous than expected. There was plenty of sauce too, which made it easy to eat together with the bone grill. Taking a bite of cream pasta after the spicy bone grill softens the heat nicely.

Going the other way — piling bone grill meat on top of the pasta — worked really well too.

Rather than eating just one thing the whole time, being able to alternate between spicy and savory made the set a great choice for the two of us.

Honest verdict on Paldo Ppyeogui Suyeong Main Branch

What satisfied me most this time was the amount of meat on the bones and the way the menu items combined. The bone grill was hefty in size and the meat was tender, so there was never a moment I felt short-changed. On top of that, having the cream pasta and Bushman bread alongside kept the meal from feeling one-note. The staff also walked us through how to eat everything and checked in a few times to see if we needed anything, which made the whole meal easy to enjoy.

Especially on a day like this one, when I was craving something spicy, this was exactly the kind of menu that lets you properly blow off stress. Next time I come back, I'm thinking of trying the extreme-spicy option with extra Bushman bread. If you're hunting for good food in Suyeong and want something spicy to go with your drinks, this is worth a visit.

Personally, alternating between spicy bone grill → cream pasta → Bushman bread was the tastiest way to eat. Next time, I'm going for the extreme-spicy challenge 🌶️
