4th-floor picture window at Suwolgyeonghwa, a Songjeong café in Busan

In short

Suwolgyeonghwa is an ocean-view tea café on the 4th floor of a building directly facing Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan, and it has been chosen as a Blue Ribbon pick for both 2025 and 2026. Under a soaring ceiling and a huge picture window, this visit tried the hyeonwolhoji tea, bam-sikhye, and the five-piece Dalbodeure box. It's a lovely spot to slow down with a cup of tea while watching the sea and the beach train roll by.

A place I'd had my heart set on for ages — Suwolgyeonghwa, arguably the hottest ocean-view café in Songjeong, Busan right now. Selected as a Blue Ribbon café for both 2025 and 2026, and reportedly visited by NewJeans, so I went in with high expectations 💙

Location and parking at Suwolgyeonghwa

Suwolgyeonghwa sits on the 4th floor of 188 Songjeongjungang-ro 6beon-gil, Haeundae-gu, Busan — the top floor of a building that faces Songjeong Beach head-on. There's parking on the 1st floor of the building, so it's convenient if you're driving, and it's also within easy walking distance of Songjeong Station or the beach, making it a great stop on a Busan trip.

The mood hits you from the building entrance already — exactly my kind of café.

High ceilings and a quiet atmosphere

The moment I stepped through the door, the first thing that hit me was the overwhelmingly high ceiling. The open sense of space made me let out an involuntary "wow." The interior isn't flashy but carries a subtle Korean sensibility, with even the lighting clearly thought through — just sitting there felt calming.

It's quiet and cozy without being noisy, great for solo reflection or a quiet chat with someone special. The generous spacing between tables was another big plus — no worrying about the next table over.

Songjeong sea and beach-train views through the window

Add in the massive picture window facing the sea, and the whole space feels like a work of art ✨ The view through that window is genuinely stunning — Songjeong Beach's white sand and rolling waves spread out right in front of you.

You can also catch Busan's beach train passing by, all in one glance. Ocean-view cafés in Busan that let you enjoy both the sea and a passing train aren't common, but Suwolgyeonghwa absolutely delivers 🚋🩵

The name Suwolgyeonghwa (수월경화) means "the moon reflected in water, a flower reflected in a mirror" — a metaphor for a beauty you can see but never hold. It felt like a perfect match for the Songjeong sea scenery filling the window.

The menu at Suwolgyeonghwa

Here's the menu at Suwolgyeonghwa. The lineup really impressed me — from their own blended signature teas to authentic teas brewed with fresh, quality leaves sourced directly from top domestic tea farms, every cup felt like it had care put into it. It's not just tea, either; there are also drinks that blend coffee and tea harmoniously, so both tea lovers and coffee lovers can find something to their taste. The desserts, too, lean into Korean flavors rather than Western-style bakery items, giving the whole menu a clear identity that's distinctly Suwolgyeonghwa.

A spread of hyeonwolhoji, bam-sikhye, and the Dalbodeure box

Ta-da. A neat, pretty spread from Suwolgyeonghwa — refreshing bam-sikhye (sweet rice punch with chestnut), the picture-perfect Dalbodeure box, and the warm, fragrant hyeonwolhoji.

How the hyeonwolhoji tastes

First up, Suwolgyeonghwa's hyeonwolhoji! From the moment the cup arrived, the fragrance drifting up was already special.

Tea set with fragrant hyeonwolhoji

Hyeonwolhoji is a hojicha (roasted green tea) with a low-caffeine, nutty, smoky roasted aroma, layered with the deep nuttiness of brown rice and the rich sweetness of muscovado sugar — a tea that expresses something new within something familiar, with a sweet and approachable flavor that wraps around your mouth.

Poured into the cup for a first sip~

Warm hyeonwolhoji poured into a cup

The first sip brought a gentle smoky note and a wave of nuttiness filling my mouth. No astringency or bitterness — it goes down smoothly, so even people who don't know much about tea could enjoy it easily. Drinking it warm felt like both body and mind melted a little. Sipping it while watching the Songjeong sea through the window — that's what healing really means 😇

What does bam-sikhye taste like?

Next, bam-sikhye! It's a subtly sweet sikhye (sweet rice punch) base harmonized with the nuttiness of chestnut and sikhye's signature cool, gentle sweetness. The sweetness is mild, not overpowering, so it's easy to keep reaching for — I get now why people call it a dessert full of Korean charm! This was my first time trying bam-sikhye, and now I'm officially a bam-sikhye lover 🌰💛

Five desserts in the Dalbodeure box

Finally, the Dalbodeure box! True to its name — meaning "sweet and soft" — it's a signature dessert with a jaw-dropping look.

The Dalbodeure box lets you enjoy five desserts at once, all capturing the Korean charm that defines Suwolgyeonghwa.

Five desserts arranged inside the Dalbodeure box

Tongpat Angbutter Monaka

First, the tongpat angbutter monaka — crisp monaka wafer shells filled with whole red beans, smooth red bean paste, and a slice of salty butter. Bite in and you get a fun contrast of crisp outside, moist inside; the plain sweetness of red bean meets the nutty, salty butter for an ang-butter combo you can keep eating without it feeling heavy!

Ganache Monaka

Suwolgyeonghwa's ganache monaka uses the same crisp monaka shell as the ang-butter version but packs it full of rich chocolate ganache — bite in and the crisp shell shatters as smooth, deep chocolate spreads through your mouth. Not overly sweet, with a rich but soft flavor — chocolate lovers especially will fall for this one.

Injeolmi Skewer

The injeolmi (chewy rice cake) skewer is chewy rice cake on a stick, generously coated in nutty soybean powder and topped with fried brown rice. Bite in and the signature chewiness of injeolmi lingers, balanced nicely by the nutty soybean powder and crunchy fried rice — a flavor that's hard to dislike!

Black Rice Sulbbang

The black rice sulbbang (fermented rice bread) has a soft, fluffy dough mixed with black rice for a subtle purple hue — bite in and you get the gentle fermented aroma typical of sulbbang along with the nutty, toasty flavor of black rice. Mild and clean, with red bean paste inside for sweetness — perfect for anyone who loves rice cakes 😉

Gamtae Myeongnan Financier

Finally, the gamtae myeongnan financier — a buttery financier topped with salty gamtae (a type of seaweed). Bite in and you get buttery richness plus a full ocean scent from the gamtae; pair it with warm tea or coffee and it's the kind of addictive flavor you keep reaching for.

Why I want to go back

Under soft lighting, gazing at the Songjeong sea rolling through the picture window, sipping warm hyeonwolhoji and taking a bite from the Dalbodeure box — my tangled thoughts just melted away. The high ceiling gives it zero sense of confinement, and with the quiet, cozy atmosphere plus views of the sea and the passing beach train, I can't imagine a more perfect way to unwind ✨

A place I genuinely loved and can't stop thinking about, Suwolgyeonghwa in Songjeong, Busan — one I definitely want to visit again. I'd recommend it as a must-stop on any Busan trip, and even more so if you want to enjoy a leisurely cup of tea in a quiet, cozy setting. Next time I'll have to come back and try the other signature teas too 🫶🏻🤍
