On a family trip to Busan, our kid asked to eat snow crab, so we went to Gijang Myeongpum Daegae.
While planning our Busan trip, we were looking for a place to have a good meal with the kids and decided on snow crab.
There are a lot of snow crab restaurants in Gijang, so we had a hard time choosing, but we found a place that seemed good for visiting with family. Having been there in person, I think it's worth recommending to anyone looking for a snow crab restaurant in Gijang, Busan.
Tanks full of snow crab and king crab at Gijang Myeongpum Daegae
Even before walking into Gijang Myeongpum Daegae, the huge tanks were the first thing that caught my eye. There were so many snow crabs and king crabs inside, moving around energetically, which made them look really fresh.
Our kid was especially amazed watching the king crabs move. She stood in front of the tank for a long while just watching them — visiting with a child made even this into fun entertainment.
How much snow crab for a family of four? 2.5kg for ₩200,000
At Gijang Myeongpum Daegae, the price is set by weight. They put the crab in a basket, subtract the basket's weight, then measure the actual crab weight — a clean, straightforward ordering process.
The going rate for snow crab that day was ₩80,000 per kg, and we visited as two adults and two elementary schoolers. When we asked the owner how much to order, they recommended an amount based on our family size, and we ended up buying about 2.5kg for ₩200,000.
Cooking time is 25 minutes for snow crab and 30 minutes for king crab!

Self-serve bar while you wait, plus family and group rooms
After ordering, while the crab was steaming, we were able to use the self-serve bar.
It was nice being able to grab a light bite while waiting, and the restaurant also had group rooms and private rooms available.

Kids picked the crab legs themselves, plus 4 free abalone
The snow crab we'd been waiting for finally arrived! Maybe because they picked it out well, but the crab on the table was even more generous than expected.
Above all, I liked that it stayed warm all the way through.
The crab was also prepped nicely for easy eating, so even the elementary school kids could pick the legs apart themselves.
They actually had more fun doing it themselves than having mom or dad do it for them.
And they also gave us 4 abalone as a free service item. Eating them alongside the crab, the abalone was chewy and delicious, and the whole family enjoyed them.
Finishing with 2 fried rice and doenjang jjigae
After eating our fill of crab, we also ordered 2 fried rice orders. The fried rice came with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), which made for a great finishing dish after the crab.
The kids ate the fried rice well too, so we could wrap up the meal feeling full all the way to the end.
