Black-toned table seating facing the stage

There are tables facing the stage head-on. Most seats are for two, but there's also a group section in the back. A dark, gorgeous, serious black-toned mood. Please arrive 30 minutes before the show starts — it makes for a smoother course dinner and more relaxed listening.

What comes out in the 7-course classic menu at Flat Nine?

Better than a lot of Italian dining spots — and this place has live music too.

It's genuinely delicious! Besides the ₩15,000 live charge, there's also à la carte pasta, plus cheese, fried snacks, and ice cream that pair well with wine. The classic and signature courses are the best. We had the classic course today.

  • 1. Aperitif / pre-meal bread
  • 2. Amuse-bouche
  • 3. Melon squid carpaccio
  • 4. Ragu sauce lasagna
  • 5. Herb-crusted Jeju black pork
  • 6. Tenderloin steak
  • 7. Chocolate cake

That's the lineup. So full... genuinely, so full..

Red pre-meal drink and potato amuse-bouche

I thought the staff member serving us was a celebrity. He might be moonlighting as an actor at the very least — there's a handsome staff member here (noted for the record).

A red pre-meal drink with cranberry, raspberry, mint, and lemon (I had the non-alcoholic version). You can choose alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Completely my taste. I wanted a full 300ml of it.

At a glance I thought the amuse-bouche might be some kind of bread, but it turned out to be thinly sliced fried potato with herbs and sauce. Crispy outside with the potato staying chewy inside — a really tasty starter.

Plated starter course dish
Melon squid carpaccio with purée

Korean melon and squid carpaccio was the top pick

The melon squid carpaccio — this was my and my companion's favorite dish. The cool freshness of the melon, and what was that purée made of? Tasted a bit like sweet pumpkin or carrot. Underneath the melon, the squid was torch-seared, and oh — it was just perfect. A dish I wanted to learn the recipe for.

And there was pre-meal bread to take the edge off hunger, though I almost wished I'd saved room — there was so much delicious food to come. The ragu tomato lasagna was packed with Korean beef, giving it a rich, heavy depth, and the cheese melted on top blended beautifully with the softly spreading lasagna noodles. Chef! Aren't you cooking a little too generously for the price! At this rate, why spend so much money on other Italian à la carte dishes?

Herb-crusted Jeju black pork grilled over binchotan

The herb-crusted Jeju black pork. It's a pinkish meat, but properly cooked through. At first it was so tender I thought it might be sous vide, but there was a faint smoky note — turns out it's dry-aged and grilled over binchotan charcoal. I should have eaten less at lunch.

What is the live jazz set at Flat Nine like?

As you eat, the show builds momentum. Flat Nine's celebrated high-fidelity sound — is it really okay to feel this moved by a live performance? What stood out was how the performers seemed to genuinely enjoy the music as they played. I'll give you 30 seconds of the highlight moment at the end. Talking about music on a date like this feels seriously classy.

Is Flat Nine worth it? Final verdict

There's nowhere else this good in Gangnam — I need to come here after work and shake my head to the music

Even tired, half-dozing with a cocktail in hand, swaying my head lazily, I found myself wanting to wake up and clap along.

The audience atmosphere at Flat Nine as the show builds momentum

Even the plating of the final dessert looked like a piece of art. I brought someone special here to treat them, and I was happy it seemed to become a good memory for them too.

Beautiful, dignified music and gracious service — that's Flat Nine. Let out the romantic soul inside you and soak it in, with your lover.
