As the weather got chillier, I started craving a spicy, deep broth. So I visited a budae-jjigae (army stew) restaurant in Cheonan that's perfect for exactly that kind of day.

It's Cheongwon Restaurant, located in Dujeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. It's already famous by word of mouth for generous portions and deep flavor, so I went in with high expectations.

Parking and the dining room at Cheongwon Restaurant in Dujeong-dong
Cheongwon Restaurant's Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch has about 4-5 parking spots right in front of the store. The interior of the Dujeong-dong branch was clean and comfortable, looking like a good spot for a work dinner or family gathering too.

True to its reputation as a Cheonan budae-jjigae favorite, there were a lot of customers.

Songtan budae-jjigae or Cheongwon budae-jjigae: which one to order?
Cheongwon Restaurant's menu had lots of options like budae-jjigae and pork loin cutlet, but I wanted to taste the deep, original flavor of budae-jjigae, so I ordered the signature Songtan budae-jjigae. I took a seat and looked over the menu.

The menu had detailed explanations of what makes Songtan budae-jjigae and Cheongwon budae-jjigae different, which helped a lot when choosing.

Basic banchan and the self-serve side dish bar
Cheongwon Restaurant serves basic banchan (side dishes) with your order. If you want more, you can grab extras from the self-serve bar.

Songtan budae-jjigae as it arrives: a pot packed with ingredients
Cheongwon Restaurant served the dish quickly right after we ordered, so the wait was short, which I really appreciated. The pot came out and started bubbling away, and just the visual alone was impressive.
I heard they use 100% domestic minced meat and only fresh ingredients, and the quality of the ingredients definitely looked exceptional.

Especially the ham, sausage, pork, and tofu were packed generously into the pot — just looking at it made me feel full.

As someone who loves ham, I was so satisfied that there was so much ham packed in. Maybe thanks to the special broth simmered carefully for a whole day, the soup's flavor was truly a work of art.

From the first bite, a spicy yet deep, rich broth flavor spread throughout my mouth — the umami was really outstanding. The savory flavor coming from the ham combined perfectly with the spicy, rich broth, and I couldn't put my spoon down.
Thanks to that rich broth flavor, I immediately understood why so many people recommend this budae-jjigae restaurant when looking for a Dujeong-dong favorite.

Unlimited rice and ramyeon refills: how much can you actually eat?
One of Cheongwon Restaurant's biggest appeals is that rice and ramyeon noodle sarl are unlimited. True to a spot with the best value, once you place a base order, you can refill both ramyeon noodles and rice endlessly.
These days it's rare to find a place that's this generous, and for anyone wanting a filling, satisfying meal, this really could be the best choice.

We refilled rice and enjoyed the ramyeon noodles as much as we wanted, eating so well we were nearly bursting. If you're looking for a delicious, generous Korean restaurant favorite in Dujeong-dong, this is a place you have to visit.
After eating up a good portion of the budae-jjigae ingredients, we quickly added ramyeon noodles and let them bubble away. The rich Songtan budae-jjigae broth soaked right into the noodles and it was so delicious. They gave us extra broth ahead of time in case we ran short, so we could keep it from getting too salty and enjoy it deliciously right to the end.
The warm welcome from the owner and staff, plus the fast service, kept me in a great mood the whole meal. Piling ham and generous fillings onto rice and mixing it with the rich broth, a whole bowl of rice disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Generous ham, rich broth, and unlimited ramyeon and rice — everything was perfect on this visit to a Cheonan budae-jjigae favorite.

Cheongwon Restaurant also gives a takeout discount
Oh! There's a takeout discount too. This is a place with great value plus taste and service all in one, so I think I'll be back soon whenever I'm craving a spicy, hearty broth.
If you want to experience the essence of rich, spicy budae-jjigae, definitely pay a visit. You'll have a truly satisfying meal.
