In short

I've been craving hot soupy food lately, so I went out for shabu-shabu again after a while, haha. This time I visited Shabu20 Daegu Bokhyeon branch! Another plus is that it's near Daegu Airport. ✈️ If you're flying out of Daegu Airport, this seems like a solid spot to fill up before you head out.

If you like shabu-shabu, you've probably heard of this place — you can eat a generous amount here, so it's good for days when you want a really filling meal. 😊
Parking and group visits at Shabu20
There's parking for 30+ cars in front of and behind the restaurant, plus public parking under Gonghang Bridge, just a 2-minute walk away!

It can seat up to 190 people, so it's good for family gatherings or group visits too 👍
Picking meat and vegetables your own way

The biggest advantage of Shabu20 is that you can enjoy as much meat and vegetables as you like! Since you bring over whatever ingredients you want and load them up your own way, I ended up piling on a bit of everything from the start.

You get to eat a lot of vegetables when you have shabu-shabu too, so even while eating meat I felt weirdly healthy 😆

From mushrooms to all kinds of vegetables and dumplings, you can pick whatever you like, so it was great to visit with people who have different tastes — everyone could enjoy it their own way.

Some shabu-shabu places only have one chili sauce, but here they have several sauces ready, so I could mix and match according to my own taste.

Vietnamese rice paper rolls for a different bite
Vietnamese rice rolls can't be missed either 🌯 Eating just meat the whole time at shabu-shabu can get a little heavy, but with rice paper...

...roll up meat, vegetables, and sauce together and it turns into a totally different bite.
Half katsuobushi, half mala hot pot broth

The shabu-shabu broth! I debated going with just one broth but ended up choosing half katsuobushi (dried bonito) + half mala hot pot 🔥 Glad I went half-and-half.

One side is katsuobushi broth — clean and savory — while the other is mala hot pot, giving off spice aromas and that numbing, tingly flavor.
Getting both the clean flavor and the numbing spice at once meant I didn't get tired of it eating half-and-half, haha. I first tried dipping a slice of meat lightly into the katsuobushi broth to cook it, and as I kept adding meat and vegetables, the broth got richer and more savory. Adding mushrooms changed the flavor again!

Is the buffet meat any good?
Why is the meat quality this good? 🥩 Since it's a buffet, I honestly didn't expect much from the meat quality, but it was surprisingly great.

There's a good variety from beef to pork, and most of all the meat wasn't too fatty, so it was easy to eat cleanly.

Turns out you don't have to sacrifice meat quality just because it's a buffet. Honestly, for a buffet, the meat quality here is top-tier! 👍

What else is on the self-service bar?
But Shabu20 is the kind of place where you come for shabu-shabu and end up getting greedy browsing the self-service bar.

I went over to grab shabu-shabu ingredients and the dishes next to them caught my eye, so I ended up piling on one thing after another... it's magic.

I never expected to end up eating dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) at a shabu-shabu restaurant, lol. From crispy items...

...to simple side dishes, there was plenty to snack on while waiting for the shabu-shabu.

Finished it off cleanly with coffee and ice cream ☕🍦

After the meal, having some sweet ice cream and a cup of coffee hit just right, haha.

They also have takeaway cups for drinks, so it was easy to grab coffee to go 👍
