On a late dinner date, two people ordered spicy beef galbijjim for two at 19,000 won per portion, egg custard at 5,000 won, and a finishing fried rice for two, choosing the mild spice level. What is the restaurant like late in the evening?

Inside, Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim Seohyeon Station Branch feels like a clean, tidy Korean restaurant. Even though we came pretty late in the evening, there were way more people than I expected.

Everyone around us was having a drink or two. We were driving, so we couldn't drink — a little sad,,,haha

Ordering spicy beef galbijjim for two plus egg custard

We ordered spicy beef galbijjim for two at ₩19,000 and egg custard at ₩5,000. The basic side dishes were dried radish strips, seaweed, corn mayo salad, kimchi, and bean sprouts.

I thought about adding glass noodles too, but they said flat glass noodles were already included in the base, so I skipped it — and honestly no need to add more!! It was already a huge portion, haha

How spicy is the mild level at Gimcheongja?

You can choose between mild, medium, and hot — they said mild is about Shin Ramyun level, and medium is about buldak bokkeum myeon level! I originally wanted medium, but my boyfriend said no way, told me I'm a total spice wimp and it'd definitely be too much, so he made me order mild instead. Turns out he was right, it was seriously spicy anyway, haha — one bite in and I was glad I listened to him, haha

They said it was about buldak level, but for a spice wimp like me it actually felt spicier than buldak! Still, it was a delicious kind of spicy.

A piece of tender beef rib from the galbijjim

Beef galbijjim usually has some tough, chewy bits, but here it was completely tender, not chewy at all, and the sauce was deliciously spicy — total stress relief in every bite!

Egg custard that helped tame the spice

So glad we ordered the egg custard! Without it, this spice wimp would've had a rough time. My boyfriend said it was just the right amount of spicy for him!

Fried rice for two served as the finishing dish

Finishing the meal with fried rice for two

And of course we ordered the essential Korean dessert, fried rice, for two — the portion was seriously generous, haha, to the point my boyfriend said he was getting full mid-bite!

If you're craving something spicy or want really good galbijjim, I highly recommend Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim, a spicy galbijjim spot near Seohyeon Station! The food was great, but the staff were also super friendly!!
