Busan galbitang restaurant for solo soju with brisket: Gang Galbitang

For a solo drinking spot in Seomyeon, Busan, I visited Gang Galbitang Seomyeon, on Saessak-ro near exit 11 of Seomyeon Station. With its clean yet deep broth, it filled me up nicely and was a perfect place to enjoy a drink alone.

This galbitang (rib soup) specialist and Seomyeon guksbap (rice soup) favorite simmers hanwoo (Korean beef) ox-bone broth by hand every morning, resulting in a flavor that's deep but not overpowering.

You can easily find it by walking up Saessak-ro from exit 11 of Seomyeon Station. Since it opens as early as 9:20am, it's also a very useful spot for anyone looking for breakfast near Seomyeon.

The exterior has a clean, neat signboard in classic Korean restaurant style. The overall tidy, hygienic impression makes it easy for anyone to walk in comfortably.

There's a small bench out front, handy for waiting comfortably or resting with a coffee after a meal.

A short walk toward Seomyeon Station from the restaurant is the designated Blue Parking Lot. Meals over ₩20,000 come with 30 minutes of parking support, so it's worth noting if you're driving.

Bar seats for one, the self-bar and the dining room

The interior of Gang Galbitang Seomyeon has a modern yet simple wood-tone design that feels pleasant. With Busan Citizens Park nearby, it also suits families or couples stopping by for a meal before or after an outing.

Above all, there's a good number of bar-style solo tables, making this a great Seomyeon, Busan restaurant for eating alone. It's just as good for a light soju drink alone after work.

On one side of the restaurant, they also sell mealkits so you can enjoy the same taste at home, which can also be conveniently ordered through Naver Smart Store for delivery.

In the middle of the restaurant is a tidy self-bar where you can freely refill side dishes, plus a coffee machine for a clean finish after your meal.

On the table, salt, pepper, and chili powder shakers along with small side plates are neatly set out so you can season to taste.

What's on the menu and what it costs

The menu is packed with signature dishes like galbitang, spicy galbitang, galbi rice soup, and galbi noodles, plus arongsatae suyuk (boiled beef shank) that's great as a drinking snack.

What I ordered was galbi noodles for ₩13,500, extra brisket for ₩3,500, oolong tea for ₩3,500, and soju for ₩5,000.

I chose galbi noodles, which let you enjoy noodles and rice together, added brisket on top, and ordered soju and oolong tea to go with it as a drink — a full solo meal and drink setup.

After a moment, the galbi noodles arrived, neatly plated. The tidy presentation and included mini rice bowl gave it a satisfying, filling look.

The basic side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), crunchy chosukjam (Chinese artichoke) pickles, a house meat sauce, and fresh chili and garlic to add as you like. The kkakdugi was well-fermented with a nice sweet-tangy balance, and the chosukjam pickles had excellent crunch.

In the center of the galbi noodles sat a single root of mountain-cultivated ginseng and a jujube as garnish, giving it a sense of being treated well and adding the feel of a healthy tonic meal.

Inside the noodles were two hefty rib bones, so it was very satisfying in portion too.

The added brisket also came piled generously, shredded softly along the grain.

How the Jeju jungmyeon noodles and rib meat taste

I tried the noodles first. The medium noodles, said to be shipped directly from Jeju, were slightly thicker than regular thin noodles and captured the texture typical of gogi-guksu (meat noodles) well. The deep galbitang broth, simmered from hanwoo ox bones, soaked into the noodles for a savory flavor.

Using tongs and scissors to separate the rib meat, it came off the bone smoothly and easily. Cut into bite-sized pieces and dipped in the house sauce with a hint of lemon fragrance, the tanginess blended with the meat's savoriness for an even cleaner taste.

Thanks to the clean broth with no off-flavor and nothing too intense, it was perfect for sipping soju without any hesitation. A satisfying solo drink in Seomyeon, Busan, to soothe a tiring day after work.

Round two: mini rice in the broth, like galbi rice soup

After eating most of the noodles, I mixed in the included mini rice bowl for a second round, like a galbi rice soup. Topped with a well-fermented piece of kkakdugi, the savory broth and tangy umami came together perfectly.

For anyone wanting it spicier and more refreshing, I'd recommend cutting up the fresh chili provided and adding it in. The added heat makes the clean broth even more standout.

This is a standout Seomyeon guksbap (rice soup) restaurant, thanks to the deep hanwoo ox-bone broth simmered by hand every morning, the tender rib meat, and the well-matched Jeju-shipped medium noodles.
