Spicy bone soup near Daegu Veterans Hospital: Samsol Gamjatang
In short
Samsol Gamjatang Main Branch is a gamjatang (pork bone soup) restaurant on Sanghwa-ro near the Veterans Hospital in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, which opened officially on September 5. During the soft opening on Friday, September 4, the recommended ppyeo haejangguk (pork bone hangover soup, 10,000 won) arrived in an extra-large earthenware bowl holding two big bones still covered in meat. The broth at Samsol Gamjatang is clean and free of any gamey smell but genuinely fiery, so anyone who avoids spicy food should come prepared.

Samsol Gamjatang

Hello! Today I've got a review of a brand-new restaurant in Daegu. I had a reason to visit Daegu after a while, and honestly, I think every restaurant in Daegu is delicious~ After some excited deliberating over what to eat, I went to a new spot in Dalseo-gu, Daegu: Samsol Gamjatang!

Where is Samsol Gamjatang Main Branch, and where do you park?
Samsol Gamjatang is located near Daegu Veterans Hospital, making it a convenient spot for hospital visitors to grab a meal. You can park right in front of the restaurant, and roadside parking is available nearby too. I visited on a Friday afternoon, and parking space was super plentiful~

It's officially opening on September 5. I visited during the soft-opening period on September 4.

Inside the new Daegu restaurant: seating and layout
There was a sign on the second floor too, so I wondered if the restaurant spanned two floors, but only the first floor was in use. Since it's newly opened, the interior was really clean. The combination of wood furniture and green tile looked really nice together~

Inside, there were various seating options, from tables for two up to four! With the kitchen positioned in the center of the restaurant, it felt like the space was naturally divided.

Once you take a seat, they bring you water. The staff even recommended a nice cool spot for us!

Samsol Gamjatang menu and prices: bone soup is the pick
There was a wide range of dishes — bone soup, gamjatang, steamed bones, naengmyeon (cold noodles), and more — and the recommended item was the bone soup! I ordered the bone soup, priced at ₩10,000.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Samsol Gamjatang
The initial side dish setup was as shown, and there was a self-serve bar next to the counter. Maybe because it was still the soft-opening period, they also brought refills to the table for us.

The kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) both had a clean flavor~ I usually have trouble biting through kkakdugi, but the radish was cut thin enough to chew easily~ I think older folks would find it easy to eat too! The ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) had an unusual look and tasted great dipped with the peppers! (But the peppers are spicy!)

Utensils are kept under the table, and they gave us a separate bowl for the bones! They thoughtfully gave each of us tongs too~
How big is the 10,000 won bone soup portion?
Since it was only ₩10,000, I expected a small size, but I was surprised at how big the bowl was!

It was served in an extra-large galbitang-style earthenware bowl, filled to the top!

There were two big bones like this inside. Can you see how much meat was attached?
The meat was so tender it just slid right off with a couple of chopstick strokes! I'm the type who picks every last bit of meat off with chopsticks!

How spicy is Samsol Gamjatang's bone soup?
The bone soup meat had zero gamey smell and was tender and delicious! They put in generous chunks of ugeoji (dried napa cabbage leaves) too, which made it really satisfying to eat. The broth's seasoning was spot on, and the meat had soaked up so much of it that you didn't even need to dip it in sauce! It was tasty even without the kimchi or kkakdugi. (But I kept picking at them anyway because they were good.)
The bone soup is pretty spicy. If you can't handle spicy food, you might end up with a runny nose! I like spicy food, so it was just the right level of heat for me, but my companion can't handle spice at all — they started off enjoying it, saying it was spicy but tasty, and by the end they were in tears with a runny nose~ haha
The portion was so huge that I had to leave a little at the end. My companion ended up finishing my meat too~ It's a portion that would fill up even a man.

There's a coffee machine, so grabbing a coffee after the meal is a nice touch~ Spicy, no gamey smell, and a generous amount of meat — there's no reason not to recommend it~
