Family meal with baby chairs at Daegu Indian restaurant: Rama & Bavana
In short
Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is an Indian restaurant on Yonghak-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu, that has been open for more than 20 years. Three generations of one family — including a grandmother eating Indian food for the first time and a young child — shared chicken curry with naan, nasi goreng and Violet India. With a baby chair, a kids' cutlery setting and a dedicated parking lot behind the building, Rama & Bavana works easily for a family meal with elders and children.

My mom, who had never once eaten Indian food in her life, and our little one — three generations of us — all headed out together to Rama & Bavana, a longtime Suseong Lake favorite of mine specializing in Indian cuisine.
It's such a deeply loved local spot in Daegu that I go to it often, but I set off half-worried, half-hopeful about whether it would suit both my mom's taste and my kid's. The verdict: a huge success of a meal! 👍

Parking and the second-floor dining room at Rama & Bavana
Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch has dedicated parking behind the building, so we could park comfortably and walk right in. Honestly, when I'm moving my kid and my parents around, finding parking and whether it's an easy walk is the first thing on my mind — so having zero parking stress from the start made everything feel a lot lighter and more relaxed.
Upstairs on the second floor, the interior felt really pleasant, with that distinctive warm, cozy feeling wood-tone interiors give off. The window side had big open windows with a great view out toward Suseong Lake, making for an atmospheric meal, and there were plenty of sturdy baby chairs for families with young kids — this really is a comfortable place to bring a child.

What's on the Rama & Bavana menu?
Once seated, a quick look at the menu revealed an amazing range of unique Indian dishes — from familiar chicken, beef, and shrimp curries, to filling rice dishes like nasi goreng and seafood hot plate fried rice, plus phad phong curry, butter garlic shrimp, tandoori cream chicken, tandoori tikka, mi goreng, and fresh salads.

I happily agonized over what combination would please my mom and my kid at once, then landed on the can't-fail order I always get whenever I come here — chicken curry and naan — plus the deliciously sweet Violet India, and nasi goreng, which is simply a must.

Kids' cutlery setting and the waiting seats
As soon as we ordered, a thoughtful staff member neatly set our table with our kid's own cutlery and an adorable plastic kids' water cup. When you're raising a child, these small, thoughtful touches at a restaurant quietly move you — thanks to it, the whole family could wait for the food in a good mood.

As a well-known Suseong Lake Indian restaurant that draws crowds at peak times, there's a well-prepared waiting area near the entrance where guests can sit comfortably while they wait. The deep know-how built up over more than 20 years of welcoming guests naturally shows even in small details like this space planning and consideration.
Nasi goreng: seafood fried rice served inside bread
The first thing to land on our table was the nasi goreng, and every time I eat it here, the visual still strikes me as unique. Split open the round, warm bread that wraps it with a fork, and inside is a generous fried rice packed with seafood — the moment it hits your mouth, a slightly spicy, savory umami flavor wraps around your tongue, and it's oddly addictive, pulling your spoon back in again and again. My mom said it was delicious and ate it right up.

Chicken curry with naan at Rama & Bavana
The chicken curry that came out next had a pleasantly spicy kick and a rich curry aroma. Tearing off pieces of the freshly baked, still-warm naan and dipping them into the spicy curry sauce, the savoriness and heat blended together beautifully instead of fighting each other.

The combination of the curry's rich, smooth sauce and the naan's chewy texture torn off by hand never gets old no matter how many times I have it — it really shows off the substantial depth of flavor of a place that's held its ground as a Suseong Lake favorite for over 20 years.

What does Violet India taste like?
Violet India, which I tried for the first time this visit, is an unusual dish that's easiest to understand if you think of it as a Hawaiian pizza. On top of a chewy dough, it's baked with refreshing pineapple, cherry tomatoes, and a generous layer of salty cheese — a sophisticated, appealing flavor where the sweet tartness of the fruit and the rich savoriness of the cheese come through at the same time.

Our little one, who still can't handle spicy food well, happily picked up pieces of plain, chewy naan and the sweet, savory Violet India pizza with their own hands and ate them right up. Seeing it win over even my kid's taste buds, I felt pretty proud of the menu choices.

After finishing every dish, we washed it all down with a cold, ice-filled glass of soda, which cleanly rinsed away any lingering heaviness and wrapped up the meal on a very satisfying note.

How was it as a three-generation family meal?
On the way out, I noticed a Kindness Travel Shop certificate displayed on one side of the restaurant, and the whole space was kept clean and hygienic, which only added to my trust. (True to being a certified 'safe restaurant'!)
My mom, who had never eaten Indian food in her entire life, said she felt no resistance at all to the unfamiliar spices and thoroughly enjoyed it — and having my own favorite spot praised by my mom made this a proud, memorable meal. Whether for a date, a family meal, or an everyday special occasion, I fully recommend Rama & Bavana, the Suseong Lake Indian restaurant, for any visit!
