Sutonggol Korean restaurant with gorgonzola pizza set: Boksakkot

In short

Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch is a large Korean restaurant next to the Sutonggol apartment complex in Yuseong, Daejeon, where sets for two or more come with a handmade wood-fired pizza and coffee. On a weekend visit at 3pm there was no wait, and the table held fire-grilled pork stir-fry, fire-grilled octopus stir-fry, ilpum jumeokbap (signature rice balls), a gorgonzola pizza and an ashatchu (iced tea with an espresso shot) for dessert. Because the meal, pizza and drinks all arrive in one place, Boksakkot works as a family outing with no separate café stop afterward.

I visited Boksakkot Pineun Jip, a well-known spot in Yuseong, Daejeon. I loved that you could enjoy a full meal plus pizza, drinks and dessert all in one place — no need to head to a separate café afterward.

Where is Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch, and how many people can book?

Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch is located in Sutonggol, surrounded by apartment complexes, so at first I was surprised such a large building was here at all.

Reservations can be made through Naver, and the restaurant can seat up to 56 people. For large groups, a private room can apparently be booked entirely, so it seemed like a great spot for family or group gatherings too.

How much parking does Boksakkot have?

There's parking for about 40 cars in front of the restaurant, and if that's full, you can use the Forestry Research Institute lot, which has room for about 50 more. Parking was generous overall.

Waiting at 3pm on a weekend, the dining room and the kids' room

I arrived just after 3pm on a weekend and there was no wait, but if there is one, you register through Tabling. There was plenty of seating for waiting too, so it didn't seem like it would be uncomfortable even during a busy time.

With parking for nearly 100 cars, I wondered just how big the inside would be — and it turned out even bigger than I expected. There were several baby chairs set up, and I saw a lot of families with kids dining there.

There was also a separate kids' room, open only to children aged 3 to 5. Having a space where kids can play briefly before or after the meal seemed great for family visits.

Boksakkot's menu and what the set for two or more includes

The menu ranged from pork stir-fry, octopus and webfoot octopus stir-fry to hot pots and braised short ribs. Ordering the set menu for two or more came with handmade wood-fired pizza and coffee, which felt like great value.

The table had instructions for the tablet ordering system, written simply enough that even older guests could follow along easily. After ordering, a variety of side dishes like salad and acorn jelly (mukbap) arrived at the table.

What's laid out at the self-serve corner

Besides the basic side dishes, the self-serve corner had macaroni, scorched rice tea (sungnyung), and seaweed soup. Soda was unlimited too, so I didn't need to order extra drinks separately.

The gorgonzola wood-fired pizza that comes with the set

Food was served by robot here. You could choose between gorgonzola or pepperoni pizza, and we went with gorgonzola. Since it was a complimentary pizza with the set, I didn't expect much, but it came out warm with cheese stretching everywhere. Dipped in honey, it was sweet and savory, and tastier than I expected. The iproom rice balls also arrived, already mixed and ready to eat.

By the time we'd nearly finished the pizza, the fire-grilled pork and octopus stir-fries arrived. Honestly, between the side dishes and pizza, we were already fairly full before the mains even showed up. Looking around, I noticed a lot of tables taking the leftover pizza home — if you don't eat much, packing the remaining pizza to go seems like a good idea.

How the fire-grilled pork and octopus stir-fries tasted

Being fire-grilled, both the pork and octopus stir-fries at Boksakkot Pineun Jip had a strong smoky char flavor, which I loved. Each person got their own large plate, along with lettuce and seaweed for wraps. I put nearly all of my fire-grilled pork stir-fry into a wrap and added bean sprouts to mix in. I tried the octopus stir-fry too, and the octopus had a nice, springy texture. Overall it wasn't just spicy for the sake of spice — the smoky char flavor came through in the stir-fry, and it went really well with rice.

Lastly, coffee is available to take out too. It's not just iced Americano or tea — there was a full café-style lineup with vanilla latte, ashatchu, iced chocolate, and more. It was great not having to go to a separate café for dessert after the meal. Right across the street is a space where you can sit and drink your beverage, apparently reserved exclusively for Boksakkot Pineun Jip guests.

There were also six kinds of snacks available for dessert. Personally I found the vanilla latte a bit disappointing, but the ashatchu was better than expected — I'd recommend it. It tasted just as good as the ashatchu you'd get at a regular café, a nice drink to have after the meal.

Lavotte ice cream received after writing a receipt review

Writing a Naver receipt review gets you a Lavotte ice cream too. Between the meal, pizza, drinks and ice cream, I ended up enjoying a lot more than I expected.

Is Boksakkot a good family dining spot in Sutonggol?

Overall, Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch has a spacious dining hall and plenty of parking, making it a good fit for families or larger groups. Beyond the mains, the set includes pizza and drinks, and there's even a café space to enjoy dessert afterward. Especially if you're visiting with kids, the kids' room is a nice bonus — worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a Sutonggol restaurant or a family dining spot.
