What kind of place is Hoseongjeong Butcher's Restaurant in Jeonju?

My mom said she's been feeling low on energy lately and needed some beef, so I took her to Hoseongjeong, located in Hoseong-dong, an area famous for beef restaurants in Jeonju!!! Turns out Hoseongjeong runs both a restaurant and a butcher shop together. They don't have a separate break time, so it's a great place to visit even during the daytime without any pressure 👍🏻

They're currently also selling holiday gift sets!!! The gift wrapping looked pretty fancy and nicely done 🎁

No table fee: how to pick your beef at the butcher counter

When you walk in the door, there's a butcher shop on the right side. You pick your meat there first, pay, and then head to your seat. The fact that Hoseongjeong has no table setting fee was amazing!!!! The meat prices are already nice, and no table fee on top of that,, 🫢

They were even selling eggs!!!!

They have a wide variety of options, from hanwoo (Korean beef) to specialty pork cuts. Each piece of meat is labeled with its grade, slaughter date, and expiration date, so you could pick with confidence. Not to mention the quality was really great, and it was nice being able to see and choose the meat with your own eyes. If you get it packaged to go, you can even get it at a discount haha

Inside Hoseongjeong: private room, seating and house rules

The inside of the restaurant was huge, so it felt really spacious and comfortable. It would be perfect for a group gathering or a company dinner.

There are hall tables toward the back, and near the entrance there's a private room set up like this too. It seemed like a nice spot for a private family meal out.

Near the entrance there are chargers you can use, and there are also baby chairs prepared on one side.

If you leave food uneaten, there's a ₩10,000 environmental fee charged. There's normally no set time limit, but if there's a wait, they said usage is limited to 2 hours to keep things moving for the next group. And wrapping up leftover food to take home is strictly forbidden 🙅🏻‍♀️

Lunch specials and drink prices, with soju at 2,000 won

Hoseongjeong's menu isn't just meat — they also have a variety of lunch specials and side dishes, so I'd recommend visiting for lunch too.

Another reason Hoseongjeong is amazing is the drink prices are so nice ㅠㅠ Soju is ₩2,000 and beer is ₩2,500 — prices so reasonable you can't not drink 🫪

The self-serve bar and seaweed soup side dish

Checking out the self-serve bar, there were side dishes that don't come out by default. Make sure to check out the self-serve bar before you start eating~~!!!!

You might think since there's no table setting fee, the side dishes would be skimpy right..?! But Hoseongjeong serves up a nice spread, starting with hot seaweed soup ㅠㅠ If you run low on any side dish while eating, just ask and they'll bring you more.

For anything besides the meat, there's a tablet at each table, so you order through that. And my mom was happy that the water wasn't just plain bottled water but roasted barley tea instead haha

How do the hanwoo sirloin, flat iron and mul naengmyeon taste?

That day, my mom and I picked two types of meat: hanwoo sirloin + hanwoo chadolbaegi (skirt cut), and also ordered mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) to go along with the meat. The meat quality was top notch!!!!!👍🏻

The marbling, the condition of the meat — all great!!!!!!!!!👍🏻 The sirloin especially was really delicious ㅠㅠ💗💗

I tried dipping it in both ssamjang and salt, tried it various ways, but for beef, salt really was the best. It melted away in my mouth 🥹

The mul naengmyeon was also solid, true-to-basics flavor haha. It was so good as a palate cleanser after eating the meat.
