Daejeon family Chinese restaurant with baby chairs: Macheonchwi

I wanted Chinese food with my baby over the weekend, so I visited Macheonchwi in Mannyeon-dong, Daejeon. Here's my honest review of what it was like to visit with a baby.

Macheonchwi's exterior and parking

Macheonchwi is located in Mannyeon-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, and I found the entrance on the first floor inside the Geosang Building.

There's underground parking in the building, which made it convenient to visit by car. After parking, you can take the elevator straight up to the first floor, which was easy to manage with a baby.

Inside Macheonchwi at 1pm on a weekend, and the private room

The inside of Macheonchwi was bigger than I expected, with a variety of seating from tables for two, to tables for four, to group seating. I visited around 1pm on a weekend and there were a lot of diners. There's also a separate private room with group seating, which looked great for a family meal or a visit with parents.

What's on the menu at Macheonchwi

Macheonchwi serves a wide range of Chinese dishes, from noodle mains like jjajangmyeon and jjamppong to sweet and sour pork and prawn dishes. They also have sets and lunch/dinner courses, so you can choose based on your group size or occasion.

What comes in the 18,000-won Modern Simple Set

About five minutes after ordering, the ryu sansul, chili prawns and Beijing sweet and sour pork all came out together, so the wait wasn't long.

The ryu sansul (stir-fried seafood and vegetables in thick sauce) was generously packed with ingredients like sea cucumber, mushrooms and bamboo shoots. The thick sauce blended well with the various ingredients, and each bite had a different texture.

The chili prawns came out as large prawns generously coated in a red chili sauce. The plump texture of the prawns went really well with the sweet and slightly spicy chili sauce.

The Beijing sweet and sour pork came with crispy fried meat served alongside sauce and vegetables. The batter wasn't too thick and the meat was tender, pairing nicely with the tangy sweet sauce.

While we were eating, a staff member asked about our noodle choice, so we picked one jjajangmyeon and one jjamppong. Choosing one of each meant we could share and try both noodle dishes, which was great.

Self-serve bar and baby tableware at Macheonchwi

On one side of the restaurant there was a self-serve bar where you could get extra servings of the basic side dishes. Near the entrance, there were candies, hair ties and disposable items available for after the meal.

They provided a baby chair along with a baby-sized plate, cup and spoon, so we could eat comfortably without having to bring our own tableware.

Good to know before visiting Macheonchwi with a baby

• There's underground parking in the building, making it convenient to visit by car.
• The Modern Simple Set can be ordered for 2 or more people, with a choice of jjajangmyeon or jjamppong for the noodle course.
• It tends to be busy around 1pm on weekends, so I'd recommend booking ahead if you want the private room.

Final verdict on Macheonchwi

• Macheonchwi's Modern Simple Set was a satisfying spread at 18,000 won per person, with ryu sansul, chili prawns, Beijing sweet and sour pork and a noodle dish all included.
• The food came out quickly, about five minutes after ordering, and it was nice being able to enjoy different flavors and textures one after another.
• With a baby chair and baby tableware provided, plus a spacious dining room, it was easy to visit with a baby.
• It's a great spot for a family meal or whenever you want to enjoy Chinese food with a group.
