Following the dazzling sunlight of Haeundae's Songjeong Beach, I arrived at a café called Suwolgyeonghwa (수월경화), which I'd seen plenty of times on social media. The moment the door opened, the view in front of me was more moving than I expected.

Antique wood tables, calm lighting, and a low melody drifting through it all seemed to wrap the whole space in a warm embrace. But what really caught my eye was the huge picture window opening onto the Songjeong sea. Like a watercolor painted into a giant frame, the blue sea, white waves, and pine trees lining the coast came together like a single painting. I sat down and stared out the window for a long while, letting go of all the tangled thoughts inside me, one by one.

Time spent at Suwolgyeonghwa felt like it wore the rough edges of my heart smooth. Drinking tea itself became a way of settling the mind.

Out of all the teas, after much deliberation I chose the 'Jeju Breeze.' The moment its tangy, refreshing scent brushed past my nose, my body and mind, worn down by the heat, woke right up. The tea's flavor unfolded gently, deep and rich, and it went down clean.

The signature dessert 'Dalbodeure-sangja' (달보드레상자, a small box of traditional Korean sweets), which I ordered together with my friend, was already moving just for how pretty it looked. Each of the traditional treats tucked inside the little box was made with care, and tasted just as good. The rice cakes and cookies arranged neatly inside balanced sweet and plain flavors nicely. We shared one box between the two of us and were so happy.

What hojicha coffee tastes like, and why solo guests fill these seats

The hojicha coffee (호지가배) combined the toasty aroma of roasted tea leaves with soft milk foam in perfect balance, leaving a heavy, cozy aftertaste without any bitterness. Both the tea and the coffee had their own clear charm, which doubled the pleasure of drinking them. My friend sipping hers happily, over and over, looked so content.

Looking around the café, I was surprised to see how many guests had come to enjoy time alone. Watching them sit by the window reading books, writing in diaries, or just gazing blankly at the sea, I could tell this was a place that could offer anyone, comfortably, a bit of time to themselves.

If I come back to Songjeong again, I'll definitely stop by once more, and next time I want to stay even longer and enjoy this quiet.
