A review of Cheonje Guksu, located in Saeori, Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju. Clean janchi guksu, spicy bibim guksu, and chewy suyuk with no off-odor — plus the interior, parking, baby chairs and self-serve corner.

There's a place in Saeori, Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju known by word of mouth for its rich kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup) made with homegrown soybeans and clean-tasting noodle dishes. That's Cheonje Guksu Tanhyeon Main Branch. Beyond kongguksu, they also serve janchi guksu (warm noodle soup), bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), suyuk (boiled pork), tofu, and perilla-oil pan-fried tofu — a hearty Korean menu I wanted to share for anyone looking for good Korean food near Heyri.

Food made with care from homegrown soybeans
At the counter, a sign explained that the tofu and dishes are made with care using homegrown soybeans. They said the kimchi is house-made too, so even the basic side dishes felt like they had real effort behind them. The side dishes — tofu, kimchi, peppers — were served neatly and paired well with the noodles. The tofu especially was mild and nutty, tasty even with just a touch of seasoned sauce on top.

A spacious, comfortable interior
The interior overall was bright and clean. There were plenty of standing tables, and on one side there was a shoes-off floor seating area too, which seemed great for a family visit.

On one side there was a self-serve corner where you could grab extra side dishes, and coffee was available too. Thanks to the friendly, warm-looking owner, I felt at ease eating there even on a first visit.
Baby chairs were also on hand, which made it look convenient to visit with kids. The spacing between tables was fairly generous too, so it seemed like a solid spot for a family meal or a group gathering.

That day we ordered janchi guksu, bibim guksu, and one serving of suyuk.

Chewy suyuk with no off-odor
The dish I enjoyed most that day was the single serving of suyuk. The glossy sliced pork came out generously topped with mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad) and buchu-muchim (chive salad). The meat had absolutely no off-odor, and the fat-to-lean ratio was good, giving it a tender yet chewy bite.
Piling a bite of suyuk with plenty of the spicy radish salad and fragrant chive salad on top was really a great match. The savory richness of the meat and the fresh tang of the vegetable salads worked together so well that I couldn't stop reaching for more. If noodles alone feel a bit lacking, order the suyuk alongside — it's a filling but not heavy combo I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good suyuk dish for lunch in Paju. If you like clean, odor-free suyuk, this is worth remembering as a solid suyuk spot in Paju.

Spicy bibim guksu that wakes up the appetite
The bibim guksu had a red sauce that looked appetizing at first glance, topped with big pieces of fresh lettuce. The seasoning was evenly coated on the noodles, so the sweet-tangy spiciness hit right from the first bite. It wasn't an overwhelming spice — more of a pleasant kick that got the appetite going.

The crisp lettuce and chewy noodles worked well texture-wise, and pairing bites with the suyuk in between balanced the spiciness with the meat's savory flavor nicely. Ordering one clean janchi guksu and one spicy bibim guksu to share meant we got to enjoy two very different charms at once.

Janchi guksu with a clean, comforting broth
First, the janchi guksu came with a clear, clean broth, thin noodles, julienned zucchini, and fried tofu skin (yubu). It wasn't loaded with fancy ingredients, but the basics-done-right flavor was memorable. The broth wasn't overly salty or sharp — mild, with a gentle savory depth.

Slurping the noodles and broth together felt comforting down to the stomach! It was truly a no-frills, textbook version of janchi guksu. Both kids and adults can enjoy it without any fuss, making it a great warm meal after a day out in Heyri.

When we first arrived the parking lot wasn't too full, but by the time we finished eating, it was hard to find an empty spot — cars kept coming in as lunchtime approached. It made me think this is already a known kongguksu spot in Paju that regulars seek out.
An overall clean spread of noodles
The janchi guksu was mild and comforting, and the bibim guksu had a pleasant spiciness that stirred the appetite. The suyuk was chewy with no off-odor, and the accompanying mu-saengchae and buchu-muchim tied it all together. Rather than flashy or overly strong flavors, this was a place where the basics were done right. Add in the neat side dishes and the friendly owner's service, and it made for a satisfying meal. If you're near Heyri Art Village or Paju Premium Outlets and want a hearty Korean meal, stop by Cheonje Guksu. Next time I want to try the rich kongguksu made from their homegrown soybeans and the perilla-oil pan-fried tofu — already booking a return visit.
