Daegu Indian restaurant near Banwoldang for tandoori tikka: Rama &

In short

Rama & Babana Dongseong-ro Main Branch is a long-running Indian restaurant on Dongseong-ro 3-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu, near Banwoldang and Dongseong-ro. On a weekday evening, two of us split nasi goreng and tandoori tikka and drank two glasses of pineapple lassi. Portions at Rama & Babana are generous enough that two dishes for two people is plenty — no curry needed.

Meeting a friend on a weekday evening in Dongseong-ro after a while, we were stuck on what to eat and ended up at Rama & Babana Dongseong-ro branch! I've liked this place for a long time — it's been around Dongseong-ro for quite a while, so if you're from Daegu you've probably spotted it before.

This Dongseong-ro favorite is also close to Banwoldang Station, so it's really convenient when you've got plans in the Dongseong-ro area!!

Second-floor window seats: a weekday evening at Rama & Babana

Head up to the 2nd floor at Rama & Babana and you get a wide-open glass wall looking down over the Dongseong-ro street — such a great seat! Even on a weekday evening it looked pretty busy, with group gatherings and families with kids already in. But it wasn't overly loud or stiffly formal either, so it worked well for a relaxed dinner with a friend, and it seemed like it'd be fine for a date or a casual get-together too.

Even though it's an old spot, the interior doesn't feel dated at all, and the floor-to-ceiling windows give it a nice sense of openness — really comfortable for a meal :)

Nasi goreng and tandoori tikka for two — is it enough food?

Honestly I came here as much for the curry as anything, but after looking at the menu I ended up ordering nasi goreng and tandoori tikka instead. We only ordered two dishes but the portions were shockingly huge!! Good thing we didn't add curry too!!

Table with nasi goreng and tandoori tikka together

Nasi goreng with fried rice tucked inside naan

First up was the nasi goreng I'd been curious about — instead of the usual fried rice look I expected, the fried rice was tucked right inside the naan, which was such a fun surprise!!

When you tear the naan open, fried rice spills out, mixed with cheese for a rich, savory flavor! The outside was chewy while the fried rice inside was moist and nicely salty — well seasoned!

Salty nasi goreng is a special treat too!!

Tandoori tikka at Rama & Babana: chicken thigh and shrimp

And the tandoori tikka looked absolutely mouthwatering!!

Plate of tandoori tikka with chicken, shrimp and salad

Well-grilled chicken and shrimp came with a side of salad, which paired nicely with the vegetables! Since it uses only chicken thigh meat, it was super tender and totally my kind of dish.

The portion is big, so it's great for splitting between two! If I had one complaint, it'd be that I wish there was a separate dipping sauce to go with it!! I was craving something a bit spicy~~haha

And check out the shrimp — nice and plump, so chewy and satisfying!

Why the pineapple lassi turned into two glasses

There's one thing I absolutely can't skip at Rama & Babana — the pineapple lassi!! If you come here, I really want you to try this. The soft, thick lassi combined with pineapple's tangy sweetness gives you this clean feeling in your mouth after a bite of food!! It's not too heavy and the freshness pops right through, so you just keep sipping and sipping — honestly I feel like I don't even need to go to India, lol.

A glass of pineapple lassi at Rama & Babana

I finished one glass and it was so good I ordered a second pineapple lassi. Having a satisfying, delicious meal on a weekday evening after a while, and topping it off with my favorite lassi — today was a really good eating day!

Would I go back to Rama & Babana?

Rama & Babana has that distinct charm of Indian cuisine without the spices being overwhelming, so it's easy to approach, and with such a varied menu it's also great for a group to visit and share dish by dish. This time I filled up on nasi goreng and tandoori tikka, so next visit I'll properly dig into my favorite chicken curry with naan for dipping! And of course I plan to order the pineapple lassi again too. :)

If you're craving something a bit different for dinner in Dongseong-ro, it's worth stopping by Rama & Babana's main branch for a hearty meal.
