Seolleung Station sushi: soy sauce shrimp plates twice, Sushi Maiu

In short

Sushi Maiu Seolleung Station Branch is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant with per-plate pricing, about 150m from Exit 5 of Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Instead of a set menu, plates come off the rail one by one — salmon sushi 4,100 won, flounder sushi 4,800 won, sea urchin roe maki 6,500 won — and the soy sauce shrimp sushi at 4,800 won was good enough to order a second plate. Sushi Maiu serves fresh live-fish sushi and has bar seats, so solo diners can eat comfortably too.

Craving sushi near Seolleung Station, I dropped by Sushi Maiu (스시마이루, Sushi Maiu Seolleung Station Branch) 🍣✨ The sushi prices range widely starting from ₩2,100, so it's great for picking whatever you're in the mood for. Real fun in choosing each piece one by one. Here's my honest review of this Seolleung Station favorite 🐷

How to get there: 150m from Seolleung Station Exit 5

Sushi Maiu comes into view right after about a 150m walk from Seolleung Station Exit 5 🍣✨ It's on the first floor of the building, so it was easy to spot at a glance. Being so close to the station, it's convenient for lunch or after work 👍🏻

Picking plates off the rail instead of a set menu

Sushi Maiu offers a lunch special on weekdays and weekends alike, plus a special course set and a sashimi set. But basically it's a conveyor-belt sushi place with plate-by-plate pricing, so there's fun in watching the rail and grabbing whatever you feel like eating haha

We skipped the set menus and picked plates one by one instead. Conveyor-belt sushi is all about watching the rail and grabbing exactly what you want haha. We sat at the bar seats where you can watch the sushi being made.

Bar seats at Sushi Maiu: easy for solo diners

Every seat comes fully stocked with soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger, and chopsticks, so you can dig in right away. The bar seats looked comfortable for solo diners too, and there really were quite a few people enjoying sushi alone. Worth keeping in mind if you're looking for solo-dining spots near Seolleung Station haha

Sushi not on the rail? Tick the order sheet

For sushi not on the rail, you check it off on an order sheet and hand it to the chef, who makes it fresh on the spot. Especially for raw fish sushi that can dry out if left sitting, they seem to make it to order each time. So there's no need to be disappointed if something's not on the rail — just order it directly haha

One sip of the hot soup and the fatigue just melts away haha. My whole body warmed up and it weirdly felt like a hangover cure. I mean, I didn't even drink last night, so why does it feel like that haha

I don't know why soy sauce at sushi restaurants is always specially delicious

Every plate we ate at Sushi Maiu: prices and taste

Now for the real review of what I actually ate. What I'm most curious about is always the quality and taste. Let me go through them honestly one by one haha

Conveyor-belt sushi served on a plate

Salmon sushi, 4,100 won

As a true salmon lover, my first pick was the salmon sushi 🍣 Badly made salmon has a strong fishy taste, but this one was thick and fresh without any fishiness. The rice portion was nicely small too — totally my style.

Flounder sushi 4,800 won, egg sushi 2,500 won, garlic sea snail sushi 3,400 won

The flounder sushi at ₩4,800 clearly had fresh, thick flounder on top — nice. Chewy texture and clean flavor, really enjoyed it.

The egg sushi at ₩2,500 combines soft egg sushi with cheese and flying fish roe on top. The cheese was properly toasted with a smoky char, making it more delicious than expected.

The garlic whelk sushi at ₩3,400 had personally the best texture thanks to the plump whelk haha. With the added garlic flavor, it turned out tastier than I expected.

Croaker sushi, 4,100 won

The croaker sushi was chewy and fresh too, delicious. After trying a few, I got the sense this place is basically great at raw fish sushi.

Aged kimchi live-fish sushi, 4,800 won

I ordered this drawn in by the sesame oil aroma haha. The moment I took a bite, the nutty sesame oil scent filled my mouth, and the combo of aged kimchi and raw fish worked great.

Korean beef tartare sushi, 4,800 won

Honestly I didn't expect much, but the beef tartare turned out surprisingly springy — oooh haha. Great chew, better than expected 🥩

Soy sauce shrimp sushi 4,800 won — good enough to order twice

Ah, this was so good I ended up ordering it twice haha. The shrimp was plump, and above all the soy sauce marinade seemed perfectly made. Not too salty, full of umami — this was the one I kept thinking about.

Tako wasabi, 2,500 won

I ordered this separately, and thanks to the added cheongyang chili sauce, the umami was on point. Tangy tako wasabi with extra spiciness — delicious, and great value at ₩2,500.

Cuttlefish sushi, 2,500 won

This one needs no explanation haha. Chewy texture, clean flavor, great for casually popping in your mouth.

Tilapia belly sushi, 3,400 won

I ordered this on visuals alone haha. Turned out much softer than grilled eel, and the sauce soaked in nicely — delicious. Since each plate is one piece, I ordered two so we could each have one haha. There was a size difference, so of course I picked the plumper one.

Flying fish roe gunkan maki, 2,500 won

It's usually 2 pieces but I ate one before taking the photo haha. I'd been eating only sushi this whole time, so I tried a roll too, and somehow it still fit even though I was already full — magic haha. The popping texture of the flying fish roe was great too.

Sea urchin roe maki, 6,500 won for one piece

Ordered this separately. It's not on the rail, so it's made fresh the moment you order — you get it at its freshest.

Freshly made sea urchin roe maki

The maki was thinner than I expected, so I was a bit thrown off at first haha. But it was piled generously with fresh sea urchin roe on top, which I loved completely 🧡 It's better when the main ingredient is generous rather than just loaded with rice haha. Great way to really taste the sea urchin roe.

The second shrimp order and the stack of plates

Full already, but that soy sauce shrimp sushi from earlier was too good, so we ordered one more plate as an encore haha. Even when full, delicious food always finds room — universal rule.

An encore plate of soy sauce shrimp sushi

It was an unplanned visit, but we ate way more than expected. Picking up piece after piece, the plates piled up before we knew it. Saying we're full while still eating — what even are we haha

Seating at Sushi Maiu: bar counter and regular tables

Besides the bar table, there's separate regular table seating too. Solo diners can take the bar seats, and groups can comfortably use the table seats.
