Fig fresh cream cake at a Gangnam coffee shop: Something About Coffee

There are so many cafés in Gangnam, but it's surprisingly hard to find one that's good for a long chat with a friend AND has a wide variety of desserts ?!! This time I went to Something About Coffee, located between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, which had a really really wide variety of desserts! (my go-to-again-and-again spot)

Where is Something About Coffee? Midway between Gangnam and Sinnonhyeon stations

One of the biggest advantages of Something About Coffee is honestly the location!!! It's just about right in the middle between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, so it's easy to get to no matter which station you come from ~! Even tucked in among the alley full of Gangnam Station cafés, the building itself is pretty big so it wasn't hard to find at all :)

Especially when meeting friends in Gangnam, if everyone's coming from different directions you end up debating whether to meet near Gangnam or Sinnonhyeon..! Since this place works from both stations, it's also a great meeting spot

Something About Coffee is a café that sells premium coffee along with a variety of handmade desserts like baked goods, cakes, and macarons! They seem to really care about the ingredients that go into the desserts too. They say they use French gourmet butter, French chocolate, Guérande salt, Finnish cream cheese, 100% dairy fresh cream, French black tea leaves, 100% almonds, and more~~ As someone who loves dessert, this is always a place I trust ㅎㅅㅎ♥

Three floors of seating, indoor and terrace on every level

What surprised me the moment I walked in... it's a café with a whopping 3 floors!! Even though it's right in the middle of Gangnam, the space was pretty spacious, and each floor has not just indoor seats but terrace seats too, so you can pick a spot based on whatever mood you're going for :) ~

On a nice day it's great to sit on the terrace with your coffee, and if you want a cooler, more comfortable spot for chatting, the indoor seats work well too ~~

With such a variety of seating on every floor, this seemed like a solid pick among Gangnam Station cafés for people looking for a relaxed spot to talk with a friend, or even a date café :) ~~ And the restroom is inside the café and kept clean, so it was comfortable to use!

How many desserts are in the showcase?

The sheer variety of desserts ..... ★ if you love desserts, your eyes will be spinning here.. When we visited, they had everything from various baked goods and fruit sandos to slice cakes, all lined up in a huge variety!!

It felt like they quickly incorporate trendy desserts too, and especially the cake selection was so varied it was hard to choose ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ....

Beyond the basic fresh cream cake, there were plenty of slice cakes using popular-right-now ingredients like yellow cheese, pistachio, and fig ~! For anyone at Gangnam Station cafés who wants to properly enjoy dessert rather than just coffee, browsing at Something About Coffee is pretty fun ~!

What does the black sesame cream latte taste like?

First, the black sesame cream latte looked delicious from the start, with a thick layer of cream piled on top! There's sweet black sesame cream on top of the latte, and with one sip you get a big hit of that distinctive nutty black sesame flavor! But it's not just nutty — there's a spoonful of sweetness mixed in?! Personally it tasted kind of like black sesame mixed with sweet white chocolate..?! The cream itself was also really creamy and smooth, so if you like sweet coffee drinks, you'd probably enjoy this ~!

Is the iced Americano sour or acidic?

The iced Americano wasn't a strongly acidic style! It leaned more nutty than sour, with a slight bitter/roasted note at the end — I personally don't love acidic coffee, so this was actually totally my taste :) ~~ It also pairs well with sweet desserts ~

And now, the fig fresh cream cake ~!! They say it uses 100% dairy fresh cream, and you could really tell — there was almost none of that slippery, slightly nauseating feeling you sometimes get from plant-based cream! The cream was soft and clean, and biting into sweet bits of fig here and there was so good ㅜㅡㅜ

I thought a fig cake would be really sweet, but it was surprisingly not overly sweet and quite moist, so it went perfectly with coffee ~~ The friend I went with was trying fig for the very first time that day, and even as a first try, she loved it! -! ♥ Successfully converted her to figs ~~~~~~~~

Is Something About Coffee worth a Gangnam café stop?

If you're looking for a spacious café with a wide variety of desserts between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, Something About Coffee is worth a visit ~ It's a whopping 3 floors, with indoor and terrace seats on every floor so you can sit according to whatever mood you want, and above all, the biggest advantage was how many dessert options there were, from baked goods to sandos to slice cakes!!!!

Of the items I tried, if you like sweet, nutty drinks, I recommend the black sesame cream latte; if you like cake, I recommend the moist, not-too-sweet fig fresh cream cake ♥ If you're looking for a date café in Gangnam, a Gangnam Station café good for a long chat with a friend, or a Sinnonhyeon Station café with a wide dessert selection, I recommend Something About Coffee ~~~
