Pangyo tonkatsu restaurant dinner, unlimited yuzu salad: Katsu Shokudo

It's been a while since I've had tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), my husband's soul food! We went to this place near his office that's already famous as a must-visit spot, and I was so happy with it that I had to write this review!

Finding Katsu Shokudo on B1 of Alphadom Tower in Pangyo

Katsu Shokudo is located on the basement floor of Alphadom Tower in Pangyo! It was slightly before dinnertime but the place was already packed with people.

Apparently Katsu Shokudo has been listed in the Blue Ribbon guide for 7 straight years and the Red Ribbon guide for 3 straight years.

Seriously impressive... a Blue Ribbon you can trust!!!

Inside Katsu Shokudo: bar seats that make solo dining easy

The inside was bigger and more pleasant than I expected. There are bar seats where you can eat comfortably alone, so quite a few solo diners were around, and the tables were spaced widely enough that it never felt cramped during the meal. Overall the space was spacious and kept clean, making it a relaxed place to eat!

They age the pork using yuzu (citron)!!! Now I'm even more excited!!

How does the fillet katsu taste with salt and wasabi?

The fillet katsu is finally here! Such a generous portion, as expected 😋👍

A textbook example of crispy outside, tender inside!!! True to being fillet, it was really soft and had no off smell at all.

The fillet katsu tasted best with salt and wasabi!

Loin katsu: thick, juicy and nutty

Next up, the loin katsu! Even at a glance it looked thick and crispy!

Can you see how thick it is!! True to loin, the nutty flavor really came through, and the meat wasn't dry — it had just the right firm texture, which made it great to chew too!

Dipping it into the tonkatsu sauce that comes with it makes it seriously delicious!!!!!!

Unlimited yuzu salad refills, plus curry, udon and cold soba

The yuzu salad that comes with the meal is so good too! It totally cuts through the richness, haha (and it's unlimited refills!!). This was truly a highlight — I think we refilled it twice

The curry had great flavor too, and pairing it with the tonkatsu was amazing hahahaha

The udon and cold soba were surprisingly good for being called side dishes!! The cold soba had a cool, clean taste that refreshed the palate in between bites, and the combination was really good. Switching between the different dishes meant there was no chance to get tired of any single flavor, so we enjoyed it deliciously all the way to the end, haha

We came out to pay and there happened to be a Naver receipt review event going on! Boldly, we gave it a go!!!! Pick a good one, honey!!

Final verdict: tonkatsu for a Pangyo office lunch or solo dinner

Overall, from the taste to the vibe and accessibility, this tonkatsu spot was satisfying! Both the loin katsu and the fillet katsu were clean with no off smell, and each cut's own character came through, making them even more enjoyable to eat. The loin katsu was nutty with a satisfying chew, while the fillet katsu had a soft, mild charm, so it was fun comparing the two while eating!

The udon and cold soba were too good to just call side dishes, and the menu was varied enough that you can pick and choose different things. Best of all, being in the Pangyo area makes it easy to visit for lunch near the office, and there were actually a lot of solo diners, so it felt fine to go alone too. It's a solid option for anyone looking for a spot for office lunches or solo meals, and since you can enjoy not just tonkatsu but also udon and cold soba, it seems like a place you could visit again and again without getting tired of it.
