Grilled tilefish family meal in Cheongju: Jeju Badang Korean restaurant
In short
Jeju Badang is a Korean restaurant in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju, serving Jeju-sourced silver hairtail and tilefish. I had boneless braised hairtail, a generously sized grilled tilefish, pot rice, a self-serve bar with more than 15 Korean side dishes, and dessert drinks. Jeju Badang was a comfortable pick for a family meal.

A Full Korean Table Set with Jeju Fish
I was craving braised hairtail today, so while I was in Cheongju, I stopped by Jeju Badang (제주바당)! I wondered why the restaurant was called Jeju Badang, and apparently they make their food with Jeju silver hairtail, tilefish, and horned turban shell. Jeju hairtail has a flavor you can trust just from hearing the name, so I was super excited ♥️

Jeju Badang thoughtfully serves a full Korean table set using fresh ingredients brought directly from Jeju. They offer dishes made with special ingredients such as Jeju silver hairtail, Jeju horned turban shell, and giant black tilefish from Jeju?!

The atmosphere was set up to suit all kinds of occasions, from family meals to get-togethers with friends or lunch. One of Jeju Badang’s strengths is its self-serve bar.

At Jeju Badang, fish dishes come with pot rice and a self-serve bar of more than 15 Korean side dishes, so you can enjoy a generous, wholesome meal. With a motto of filling the table generously, Jeju Badang serves braised hairtail, grilled fish, and pot rice together using fish brought in from Jeju.

Spacious Tables and a Self-Serve Bar
Inside, there are around 20 four-person tables. The tables themselves are very large, and there is plenty of space between them, making it a really comfortable place to eat.
Using the Self-Serve Bar

There is also a self-serve bar, so I could have as many different side dishes as I wanted! With chicken, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork), and more, it was perfect for a generous meal alongside the main fish dishes.

The self-serve bar had every sauce you could want! There was seasoned fried-chicken sauce and even salad dressing!! And they had my favorite cucumber peppers and cabbage wraps too!

The fried chicken was crispy and nicely seasoned—honestly as good as what you would get from a specialty place! The japchae was not too salty either, and it was so tasty! ☁️ ☁️♥️
Boneless Braised Hairtail and Generously Sized Grilled Tilefish
Menu

The boneless braised silver hairtail was a dish I kept reaching for because I could eat it comfortably without worrying about bones! I had it with rice, and wow, the braised hairtail was seriously delicious! 💖 Adding the braising sauce to the warm pot rice made the meal even more satisfying, so I totally approve this place as a good restaurant!
The grilled tilefish stood out with its generous size and plentiful look, and it went wonderfully with the pot rice! I loved the atmosphere that brought Jeju Island to mind, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable, so it was a good place for a family meal.

Each fish had a different texture, making this a great Cheongju restaurant where even a group can choose according to individual tastes. After the meal, you can help yourself to dessert drinks such as coffee, iced tea, and maesil-cha (plum tea), so the meal felt satisfying right through to the finish! If you are looking for a hearty, generous meal in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju, or a good Gagyeong-dong restaurant to take your parents to, make sure to visit Jeju Badang!
