Brisket instant tteokbokki on Sinsa-dong’s Garosu-gil
This place completely won over the palate of someone who calls herself a bit of an instant tteokbokki hunter: Mil Tteok Factory Main Branch, a beloved instant tteokbokki spot on Sinsa-dong’s Garosu-gil. It shattered the idea that even tteokbokki gets expensive in Gangnam with its great value, and it was the first instant tteokbokki I’d had in ages that had me repeating, “This is so good.” It is the only instant tteokbokki place saved in my Garosu-gil favorites.

The first sentence introducing Mil Tteok Factory Main Branch says there is no other tteokbokki place as good as this one... and it was true. That’s true, fact. I’m a tteokbokki killer who used to eat it at least twice a week, and someone who loves instant tteokbokki most of all, so Mil Tteok Factory’s version was somewhere I wanted to score highly in every respect. They say they researched tteokbokki for two years, and it showed: when it comes to tteokbokki, it was outrageously delicious.

Mil Tteok Factory Main Branch is on basement level 1 down a Sinsa-dong alley. I went late on a weekday evening, but I imagine the surrounding office workers would fill the place at lunch. Even though it is underground, it is very well maintained—fresh, spotless, and with a hip interior full of that MMG sort of vibe.

Instant tteokbokki menu and what I ordered
Mil Tteok Factory Main Branch’s menu is built around instant tteokbokki. On top of that base are varieties with sweet-spicy sauce, Toowoomba, brisket, black bean sauce, and more, and the M size—enough to fill two people up—is amazingly under ₩20,000. Sides include handmade crispy fritters, butter garlic fries, sweet potato cheese gratin, flying-fish-roe fried rice, butter jangjorim rice, plus toppings to add to the tteokbokki. Just looking at the menu, it is such a generous lineup for eating tteokbokki in delicious, varied ways that you cannot help but agonize over the choices.

Pickled radish, water, and all the setting items are self-service. Everything is cooked to order, and before long the full spread was set out.

I ordered the M-size brisket instant tteokbokki with an extra jjolmyeon (chewy wheat noodles) portion, assorted fritters, and butter garlic fries. Visually, it was a spread made to drive instant-tteokbokki fanatics wild.

Sweet-spicy instant tteokbokki with brisket and jjolmyeon
The instant tteokbokki had a sweet-spicy sauce base piled generously with brisket carrying plenty of smoky wok aroma. It is cooked to order, and you only need to let it boil for one minute before eating. A ramen noodle portion comes with it as standard, but since I am a noodle lover, I properly added jjolmyeon too—and that was an excellent decision.

Normally, I taste the broth before properly digging into instant tteokbokki, and this broth looked different from the color alone. The moment I scooped up a spoonful, my head practically buzzed and a gentle, shivery wave of umami spread through my mouth.

You could really feel the owner’s craftsmanship and effort—the dedication of someone serious about tteokbokki—melted into this broth. It was sweet and spicy, pleasantly hot yet still sweet, the kind of flavor that keeps coming back to you and reaching for another bite. Then the rice cakes, fish cake, and assorted noodle additions simmered down beautifully in that broth, making every bite taste like a dopamine rush. Add the gently smoky brisket, and that is heaven. The taste of paradise.

Assorted fritters and butter garlic fries
The assorted fritters had such a special, distinctive look that it was hard to believe they cost ₩10,000. When you think of fritters, you normally picture seaweed rolls, squid, and sweet potato, but these came loaded with seemingly wholesome ingredients such as crown daisy and mushrooms. Fried beautifully in batter, they were the visual champion of fritters.

The soy dipping sauce boosted the umami even more, and it was unusual in the best way because every fritter let the ingredient itself shine through. They were delicious dipped in the tteokbokki broth too—almost like healthy vegetable fritters you can enjoy with carbs? There were also sundae (Korean blood sausage) fritters and squid fritters, while the enoki mushrooms and crown daisy had great texture: truly a delicacy among delicacies.
These addictive fries were generously topped with butter garlic sauce. Just when your mouth starts to tingle from the spice, one sweet, nutty butter-garlic bite refreshes everything and gets you ready to go back to the tteokbokki.

What is there to say about butter garlic? Sweet, delicious, and a flavor that stays on your mind. Pair it with sugar-dusted fries and... I’ll start my diet tomorrow.
It felt so satisfying to discover such delicious, charming instant tteokbokki after a long time at this Sinsa-dong gem. The value was extremely, extremely good for Gangnam, and the owner being so kind earned extra points too. The assorted fritters, fries, and instant tteokbokki worked so well together, but above all, the instant tteokbokki—the star of any tteokbokki place—was even better than expected. Whenever I am looking for great instant tteokbokki near Sinsa-dong’s Garosu-gil, I will absolutely come here.
