Sinchon hospital arcade burger takeout and parking: Bas Burger

I was in the Sinchon area for my baby's 50-day studio photos, and since Bas Burger was on the way home, I stopped by for takeout. This is Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch.

Even if you have nothing to do with the hospital, like me, I'd recommend it if you have business around Yonsei University or Sinchon. For hospital visitors too — the food options inside the hospital feel limited, but heading all the way back out to Sinchon Station is more of a hassle than it sounds, so I'd suggest using Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch in the basement arcade of the hospital instead!

Since it's in the basement arcade of Yonsei Cancer Hospital, it's easy to swing by right after an appointment or test, and it's also reasonably accessible from Yonsei University and Sinchon Station, so it's worth knowing if you're looking for good food in Sinchon, near Sinchon Station, or around Yonsei University. And it's not just a regular burger chain — these are handmade burgers, so the taste is a given. I used to visit Bas Burger regularly anyway. Oh, and there's unlimited free potato chip refills. How do you reach the Yonsei Cancer Hospital B1 arcade on a weekend?

The biggest advantage of Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is its location. But first-time visitors can get a bit lost. We parked in the garage thinking we'd just head to B1, only to find out the hospital elevators don't run on weekends. (Apparently because visitation is restricted then.)

With no other option, we went up the emergency stairwell, only to discover the restaurant row is actually in the arcade, not the hospital building. There's a separate entrance to the arcade from outside! You need to head to the arcade's basement level. It's walkable from Sinchon Station, Yonsei University, or Severance Hospital, so it's convenient to get to once you know the way!

How much is parking at Yonsei Cancer Hospital?

You'll need to use the Yonsei Cancer Hospital/Severance Hospital parking lot — Bas Burger doesn't offer any parking support of its own.

• ₩650 per additional 10 minutes
• There's a pre-payment machine — exit within 20 minutes after paying

Since we did takeout this time, we ordered quickly and left within 30 minutes, so we didn't pay anything for parking. For people visiting the cancer hospital for a checkup or to see a patient, not having to travel far after finishing at the hospital is a real plus, and since the restaurants are all clustered together in the basement arcade, the whole meal logistics feel pretty convenient. It seems especially useful when you want a quick meal after a fasting test or appointment, or a simple meal with a caregiver.

Inside Bas Burger: the room and eating alone

The Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is clean overall, and since you order at a kiosk, it doesn't feel too awkward to eat alone. There were in fact people eating solo when we visited.

Bas Burger menu and price range

I've been a regular at Bas Burger since I used to work in Yeouido. The lineup runs from the signature Bas Burger to The Bas Burger, Greed Burger, Hawaiian Burger, Mushroom Burger, Sriracha Cheese Burger, Wasabi Mayo Shrimp Burger, and Chicken Burger. On the side there's French fries, onion rings, sweet potato fries, chicken items, and even shakes, so it's easy to make a proper meal out of it. You don't usually see shakes outside of Shake Shack-type places, so I almost ordered one. But we still had about an hour's drive ahead of us after getting takeout, so I skipped the shake in case it melted.

Going by the current menu board, the basic Bas Burger starts in the ₩7,000s, and heavily topped options like The Bas Burger and Greed Burger go up to the low ₩10,000s — not bad in terms of value.

Unlimited potato chips: can you get them with takeout?

The best part for dine-in customers is unlimited free potato chips! (This doesn't apply to takeout orders — getting them to go costs an extra ₩2,500.) Honestly, the chips are tastier than the French fries, so dine-in guests should definitely refill several times! You can scoop as many as you like, and they're even better dipped in mayonnaise.

Being able to snack on chips while waiting for your order to come out is genuinely great. It'd be nice if takeout customers could at least get one free plate too, though.

Next to the chip station there's a rack with black pepper, ketchup, mayonnaise and other seasonings. There's Wi-Fi too, and you can log in easily via QR code.

What does the wasabi mayo shrimp burger taste like?

I ordered the wasabi mayo shrimp, my husband got the double bacon cheeseburger, and we added French fries and two colas on the side. I've been to Bas Burger many times, but the wasabi mayo shrimp burger was always the most distinctive.

It's grilled shrimp with wasabi sauce, whole grain mayo, teriyaki sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, and onion rings. The wasabi comes through more strongly than expected — if you like the wasabi-and-shrimp combo, there's no way you won't like this. It's actually thicker and heavier than the double bacon cheeseburger, so it makes for a proper full meal!

The first bite gives you the springy texture of the shrimp, then the wasabi mayo comes up with a slight kick right after. The wasabi scent isn't overpowering since it's mixed with mayonnaise, so it goes down fairly smoothly. On top of that, the sweet-salty teriyaki sauce comes in too, so you get the kick + sweet-and-salty + shrimp texture all at once = love.

The double bacon cheeseburger is the heavy one

My husband's order, the double bacon cheeseburger. This one lives up to its name — it's the heavy option. Two beef patties, two slices of cheddar cheese, bacon, Bas sauce and ketchup, with no vegetables at all. You really feel the beefy flavor of the patties and the salty, rich cheese.

There's none of the refreshing cut a veggie-loaded burger gives you, so it's meat + cheese + bacon pushing through from start to finish. With two patties it has real thickness, and with bacon added on top, even one burger left us pretty full. If you love cheeseburgers, or prefer a rich, salty American-style burger over one loaded with vegetables, this is the one.

Is Bas Burger worth it for takeout?

We went for takeout this time rather than eating in for a while, and since it's a restaurant inside the hospital, it was easy to grab and go. Hospital visits especially tend to run longer than expected, making it easy to miss mealtimes, so having a menu you can pick up quickly seems genuinely useful.

We weren't there for a hospital appointment this time, but if I were visiting a patient, I feel like Bas Burger would be the easiest option among the restaurant row in the arcade for a quick meal? There's a Starbucks next door too, but a burger beats a sandwich in my book. Rather than feeling like some elaborate handmade-burger production, it's closer to a quick order that fills you up properly — worth a visit.
