A Seomyeon pork rib spot with a friend after work

I made plans with a friend after a long while. Hehe.

We were originally supposed to meet in August, but it was so brutally hot we pushed it to September. We finished work and headed straight to dinner together. The restaurant we visited was 'Gilchon Sutbul Galbi Seomyeon Main Branch' in Seomyeon. It's also close to Bujeon Station.

Seating and the basic table setting

There's a room in the back that's good for group gatherings. There are round tables and square tables. The tables are wide, so it's comfortable.

Once you sit down, they check your headcount and set the table right away. The basic table setting fee is free.

The menu is on the kiosk — just fresh and marinated ribs

The kiosk is the menu. You order right there too. Gilchon is a pork rib specialty restaurant, so it's only fresh pork ribs and marinated pork ribs.

'How to enjoy Gilchon Sutbul Galbi' — grilling the meat well and eating it deliciously, right? Still, give it a read before you visit, haha. Spoons and wet wipes are on the side of the table.

Self-serve bar side dishes

There are extra side dishes at the self-serve bar. Ridgy grabbed some extra onions. If they don't have a side dish you want at the self-serve bar, just ask for it.

What we ordered for two and the total

So here's Ridgy's order breakdown.

  • Basic marinated pork ribs ₩29,500
  • Egg soufflé ₩2,900
  • Doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) ₩2,900
  • Rice ₩900
  • Half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles) ₩6,900
  • Total ₩43,100

After ordering, the marinated pork ribs arrived. It's a decent amount for two people. If there are three of you, add more meat.

The egg soufflé is size S

While we were grilling the meat, a piping hot egg soufflé arrived! It looks huge in the photo, but it's actually a small bowl. Remember: size S.

Doenjang stew and rice

Next up, doenjang stew and rice. The rice portion is generous. We shared one bowl between the two of us. The doenjang stew is delicious! Good good.

The half-and-half naengmyeon we added at the end

We had a good meal with the rice, but felt a little something was missing. So as our very last order, we added half-and-half naengmyeon! Bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) on the left, mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) on the right. I didn't expect much from it (before trying it).

Half-and-half naengmyeon with bibim and mul noodles together

I honestly made the right call! For the price, the naengmyeon is totally the best. The mul naengmyeon is delicious, and the bibim naengmyeon is delicious too.

Naengmyeon bowl finished without a drop left

It was so good we slurped it all down without leaving a drop. No regrets at all, so tasty... so full... Dongbaekjeon payment is accepted.

Would I recommend it as a Seomyeon meetup BBQ spot?

If you have plans or a gathering in Seomyeon, I'd recommend this Seomyeon BBQ spot, Gilchon Sutbul Galbi. Just make sure to ask them to swap the grill plate often — it chars fast. The prices are reasonable too, so you can eat without worry. The side dishes — doenjang stew, egg soufflé, naengmyeon — are all delicious.
