Pyeongchon izakaya with yurinchi and Chamisul soju after work: Baichan

In short

Baichan is a Japanese-style izakaya bar on Gwanpyeong-ro near Pyeongchon Station in Anyang, Gyeonggi. The writer stopped in after work for Baichan's signature sukiyaki and yurinchi (crispy fried chicken) with a bottle of Chamisul soju, and found the sukiyaki broth turned deeper and more savoury as it reduced while the sweet-tangy soy sauce on the yurinchi cut the richness. Baichan suits a date, a small get-together or a quiet after-work drink.

Today I'm bringing you a review of a place I honestly wanted to keep all to myself but has already become a well-known hotspot in Pyeongchon — the izakaya bar 'Baichan' — which I visited after work not long ago.

If you want to shake off stress with delicious food and a glass of soju after work, or you're looking for a date spot with good vibes, definitely stick around for this post!

What kind of bar is Baichan near Pyeongchon Station?

The moment you walk into Baichan in Pyeongchon, you're greeted by modern yet warm lighting. It's not the usual loud pojangmacha (street-tent bar) vibe — it's a tidy, Japanese-inspired izakaya style where you can enjoy food and drinks with real atmosphere!

The soft lighting makes for great selfies, and it felt like a good spot for a couple's date or a cozy chat with close friends. The tables were spaced comfortably too, so we could talk at ease.

Signature dish 1: Baichan's sukiyaki

A perfect harmony of deep, rich broth with fresh meat and vegetables

After agonizing over the menu for a while, I first ordered Baichan's signature sukiyaki. The moment I saw it set up on the burner, I couldn't not take a photo.

The pot was packed with bright red beef, shiitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, tofu, glass noodles, and fresh vegetables all neatly arranged — it looked delicious just sitting there. As it bubbled away, the sweet-savory scent of the special sukiyaki broth got stronger.

Dipping the well-cooked meat and vegetables into the fresh egg yolk sauce served alongside... so savory and soft in your mouth. The broth got more richly flavorful the more it reduced, so it was fun to keep scooping up warm spoonfuls.

Signature dish 2: yurinchi, crispy fried chicken in tangy soy sauce

Crispy outside, juicy inside! The charm of the tangy-spicy special sauce

While I was still enjoying the sukiyaki as a soup dish, the second menu item arrived — yurinchi. Freshly fried crispy chicken piled high with crunchy lettuce and topped generously with sliced cheongyang chili and red chili — it passed the visual test right away.

The batter was truly crispy while the meat inside stayed juicy and moist!! The special soy sauce underneath was amazing. The tangy-sweet yet clean sauce cut right through the greasiness of the fried chicken, and adding a slice of cheongyang chili on top brought a spicy kick that kept me coming back for more without ever getting tired of it.

How Baichan's food pairs with Chamisul soju

The deep, warm richness of the sukiyaki plus the crispy, tangy-spicy yurinchi — the sweet-salty-crispy combo of these two dishes was truly perfect. If you go to Baichan, I definitely recommend this pairing.

The chemistry with the Chamisul soju we chose that day was insane. A spoonful of the warm, rich sukiyaki broth with a shot of Chamisul, then a bite of the crispy, tangy yurinchi with another shot — the soju never felt sweet or heavy, it just went down clean. Because the side dishes were so good, I kept feeling like having just one more drink...

Is Baichan worth a visit? Final verdict

  • Recommended menu: sukiyaki + yurinchi combo (perfect balance of broth and fried food!)
  • Best for: dates, small get-togethers, after-work drinks with atmosphere
  • One-line verdict: a gem in Pyeongchon that nails all three — quality of food, atmosphere, and friendly service!

If you're looking for a bar in Pyeongchon with great vibes and delicious side dishes, how about sukiyaki and yurinchi with a glass of Chamisul at 'Baichan' this weekend? It'll really be a choice you won't regret!
