Takeout sushi from Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae Market Branch

On a Sunday afternoon, I headed near Moraenae Market to pick up my sister, who was going to church to play the organ — and since she loves sashimi and sushi, I picked up some sushi for us to eat together! That's how I found a sushi spot near Moraenae Market, Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae Market Branch.

It's a place specializing in sashimi and sushi, and I loved that you can compare the different sets and pick exactly what you want.

Where should you park near Moraenae Market?

Normally, if you're driving, you can use the Moraenae Market public parking lot or the Mansu Bokgae public lot about 400m from the shop. The Moraenae Market public lot charges ₩1,000 for the first 30 minutes, then ₩500 every 15 minutes, up to a maximum of ₩12,000.

But when I actually got there, parking was really, really ⭐️rough⭐️.... So here's the ✅Moraenae Market parking tip I cooked up!!!!!!

Parking conditions near Moraenae Market

The public lot was full and the streets around the market are all these tight little alleys, so parking was genuinely tough. I basically gave up and figured I'd just pay wherever looked easiest to park, and pulled into * World Sikjaemart * right inside the market — probably because it's a big store, the parking lot was huge and well laid out.

I saw the first 20 minutes cost ₩1,000, so I figured I'd just pay the thousand won — but since I only ran in for the sushi, I made it back within the 15-minute turnaround window and parked for free hahaha. That's a solid tip, right?

Lunchtime atmosphere and the display case

Anyway, I visited around lunchtime and there were a lot of people. The sushi was going fast, but since it wasn't near closing time, staff kept restocking it continuously.

The refrigerated case out front has salmon sushi, flounder sushi, mixed sushi, a special sushi set, futomaki (thick seaweed roll), and more. Each menu is packed in a clear container so you can see the composition, making it easy to pick your preferred fish and quantity. The case was being restocked in real time too, so everything looked fresh overall.

Taking home the special sushi set and futomaki

That day I picked up the special sushi set and futomaki. Getting sushi and futomaki together means you get both the pure taste of the fish and the mixed flavors of various ingredients all at once, so it makes for a satisfying combo. They also gave soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger separately, and packed everything in a dedicated cold bag for easy carrying.

What's in the special sushi set

The special sushi set has a well-balanced mix of tuna, salmon, white fish, soy-marinated shrimp, eel, squid, and more. Even within one pack, each fish differs in color and shape, so it looks really appetizing. The slices of fish on top were big enough to fully cover the rice and not too thin, so you really get to enjoy chewing.

Salmon sushi with a thick slice on top

The salmon sushi had a thick, vividly orange slice on top, melting softly in your mouth and leaving a rich, savory flavor behind.

Light, clean-tasting tuna sushi

The tuna sushi is lighter and cleaner-tasting than the salmon, good for eating in between the richer pieces.

Chewy white fish sushi

The white fish sushi has a chewy, springy texture, and the more you chew, the more a subtle sweetness comes through.

Soy-marinated shrimp and eel sushi

The soy-marinated shrimp isn't over-seasoned, and its salty umami pairs well with the soft texture. The eel sushi has a sweet glaze added, giving it a rich flavor distinct from the other fish. The squid sushi is springy but not tough, clean-tasting, and good with a little soy sauce and wasabi. The lightly seared salmon sushi had a smoky char and a savory sauce added, making it fun to compare against the raw salmon.

Anyway, every piece of sushi was delicious. The rice portion was on the generous side — good for people with a bigger appetite, better too much than too little. For everyone's sake.

Four large pieces of futomaki

How big is the futomaki, really?

The futomaki is quite large even per single slice. Inside, it's packed with salmon, tuna, eel, egg, shrimp, crab stick, cucumber, avocado, pickled radish, and more. It's not just loaded with fish — the soft egg and crunchy vegetables come through too, so you get several textures in one bite.

Cross-section of futomaki packed with filling

The savoriness of salmon and tuna, sweet egg, salty eel, and crunchy pickled radish all balance out nicely. The rice isn't overly heavy and the filling ratio is high, so even though the roll is thick, it doesn't feel like too much.

It's honestly so big you couldn't ask "only four pieces?" — the portion is substantial. Even one piece is filling, and if you finish the whole pack, it's plenty for a full meal.

What else comes with the takeout

True to a takeout specialty shop, they gave a soy sauce dish along with everything, which felt like a nice touch. Thanks to that, I could eat cleanly without spilling. They also included pickled ginger and rakkyo, one per pack, so there was plenty, and interestingly, they gave a mini miso soup separately.
