Salmon and flatfish sushi with summer mulhoe takeout: Minyeong Hwareo

In short

Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae Market Branch is a raw fish shop in Namdong, Incheon, selling takeout sushi and hoe (raw fish) near Moraenae Market. A weekend visit after 4pm turned up salmon sushi, flatfish sushi, and a ₩16,000 mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) generous enough to split into two bowls. With plenty of small 7-10 piece packs, it's a solid pick for solo sushi lovers too.

I love the sushi at Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang, and turns out there's one at Moraenae Market too! You don't need to go all the way to Yeonan Pier to enjoy it — Moraenae Market has it covered.

What time should you go to catch the full sushi lineup?

After 5pm, they say the sushi selection thins out a lot, so I'd recommend visiting during the day. There were customers coming in nonstop, and staff kept restocking as trays emptied out! Since it sells that fast, you know it's fresh — Minyeong follows a rule of using up each day's prepared ingredients on the same day.

Sushi types and prices

I got there after 4pm on a weekend, and luckily there was still a good variety left — salmon, shrimp, flatfish, eel, egg sushi, futomaki (thick rolled sushi), and there was even a mixed sushi set so you can try several kinds together! Prices run from ₩6,000 to ₩10,000 to ₩16,000. Each pack usually has around 7 to 10 pieces! They also sell flatfish hoe (raw fish), raw salmon hoe, mixed hoe, and mulhoe. One advantage over the main branch is that here they have more of the 7-piece and 10-piece options. It's great if you want to buy sushi just for yourself or only need a small amount!

Packed in a cold bag with an ice pack

When you buy raw fish to take out, freshness can be a worry, right? When you buy sushi here, they put it in a cold bag with an ice pack too, so you can eat with peace of mind. Freshness matters especially in summer, so a cold bag plus ice pack really takes the worry away! Still, it's safer to eat quickly rather than leave it outside for a long time.

The packaging looks clean, right? I've been reusing this cold bag whenever I carry food out haha. It's made sturdy enough that it's nice to reuse a few more times at home.

Both Onnuri card and e-eum card work here. I paid with the Onnuri card I had charged up haha.

Salmon and flatfish sushi unpacked at home

I rushed the sushi home to eat it there — I couldn't wait to dig in!!

Ta-da~ what I bought today was salmon sushi, flatfish sushi, and mulhoe. I really love salmon, so my mouth was watering! Along with the sushi, they packed plenty of extras too — soy sauce, wasabi sauce, shredded onion, tartar sauce, and broth.

The salmon color looked so appetizing. This shot is of the thickest part, and it's pretty chunky~~ but it melts in your mouth when you eat it!! The flatfish shot is also the thickest part, and it had a nice thick chewy bite. There was a slightly firm texture, but the flavor was great~ salmon's still my top pick though!! Salmon is seriously delicious~~👍

Sushi topped with shredded onion and sauce

Eating it with the onion and sauce gives it a clean, refreshing flavor, so it's tasty this way too~ It's also good dipped in soy sauce!

Mulhoe packed in a takeout container

Summer-only mulhoe at ₩16,000 — how much is the portion?

The mulhoe was ₩16,000 and the portion was seriously huge! The seasoning broth was semi-frozen into slush, so it's cool and refreshing, and the sauce tastes great!! Slightly spicy? sweet, and really tasty~

Mulhoe mixed with semi-frozen seasoning

While mixing it, there was so much I had to split it into two bowls~ The portion really is huge, right? There's plenty of cabbage, perilla leaves, and cucumber, plus a good variety of raw fish, seaweed, abalone, and flying fish roe hoe! I don't really know my hoe types well, but it looked like 3-4 kinds were mixed in.

I ate it up nice and cool. Mulhoe is only sold in summer, so try it before the season ends! After finishing the contents, the broth was so good I spooned it up too hahaha.

Empty sushi containers and mulhoe bowl after finishing

Cleaned my plate again today~ I ate so well and so full haha. If you're heading to Moraenae Market, try visiting Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae Market Branch~ There's such a variety that you can pick out whatever sushi you like, and it's packed fresh and neatly. The owner was really kind too, so it was a pleasant purchase.
