Hi everyone 🫶🏻 This post is an honest review of Omokgyo Gopchang, a Mokdong restaurant I recommend for a company dinner! The garlic gopchang had zero gamey smell and was so good — I'd absolutely recommend it for a company dinner or a family meal out :)
Where is Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch, and what are the hours?
Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a beef gopchang restaurant on the 1st floor of 226-13 Mokdongdong-ro, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. It's open Mon–Thu 16:00–22:40, Fri 15:00–22:40, Sat–Sun 12:10–22:40, with last order at 22:00.
The storefront on Mokdongdong-ro

The red sign caught my eye from far away so it wasn't hard to find, and there were menu photos posted right by the entrance so I could get a quick look before going in :) The old-school exterior was so my style!
Inside Omokgyo Gopchang: atmosphere and seating
Inside, Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch has that retro vibe typical of a gopchang restaurant! There were round tables and partitioned tables, plenty of variety to suit any party size.

Overall it had a cozy, warm feel — exactly the kind of place for gopchang with a drink :)

Around the restaurant there were detailed write-ups introducing Omokgyo Gopchang and how to enjoy it best! They select domestically raised hanwoo (Korean beef) gopchang butchered fresh daily, and even explain how to pair it with their house-made scallion kimchi — easy to follow even on a first visit!

The menu board especially laid out combos and the recommended order for eating gopchang, which made it easy to try things one by one according to taste :)
Menu and what we ordered at Omokgyo Gopchang

Omokgyo Gopchang's menu ranges from grilled gopchang to set menus, hot pots and rice dishes! We ordered the mixed gopchang for two (₩27,900 per serving), which lets you try several cuts at once. Once we finished it off, we couldn't skip the Omokgyo fried rice at ₩6,900 to wrap things up :)
The table setting: sundubu-jjigae and side dishes

Once we ordered, a nice spread of side dishes and sauces to go with the gopchang arrived! The spicy sundubu-jjigae that comes standard was served bubbling hot, packed with soft tofu, spicy and piping — great as a drinking snack even before the gopchang arrived><

On the side came scallion kimchi, chive salad, pickled onion and cheonyeop (beef tripe lining), plus dipping sauces — sesame oil-salt, shiitake wasabi and a spicy house sauce! The savory gopchang was great with a light dip in the sesame oil-salt, and the tangy crunchy pickled onion, scallion kimchi and chives cut the richness so you didn't get tired of it by the end :)
Mixed gopchang for two, served in order from heart to teukyang

Our mixed gopchang for two finally arrived! Gopchang, daechang and other cuts were piled generously on one plate along with onion, chives, bean sprouts and scallion kimchi — it looked delicious just from the visuals!
The staff member grilled the gopchang for us and even gave us a fire show partway through! 🔥 Flames shot up over the grill — more dramatic than I expected and fun to watch!
Watching everything sizzle away on the grill was mouthwatering. Along with the mixed gopchang, onion, chives, bean sprouts and mushrooms were grilled together, soaking up the gopchang fat for extra savory flavor — great to pair with. The crisp vegetables in particular balanced out the richness of the gopchang really well :)
Heart (yeomtong)
First up, heart, dipped lightly in sesame oil-salt! It wasn't too chewy, had a nice bounce and a clean flavor, and dipping it in the savory sauce added extra depth — since it's lighter than gopchang or daechang, it was a great one to start with :)
Gopchang (small intestine)
The gopchang, grilled to a nice golden brown, was crispy outside and packed with fat inside — one bite delivered a deep, savory hit! Chewy texture, and the more you chewed, the richer the savory flavor from the fat got — I couldn't stop reaching for more!
It's tasty plain, but dipping it in the spicy house sauce added a kick that cut through the richness — such a good match with the gopchang :)

Makchang (last stomach chamber)
The makchang (beef bung) was grilled golden, slightly crisp outside, and had a great chewy texture the more you bit into it! Pairing it with bean sprouts and chives added a crunchy contrast that worked well with its savory flavor :)
Daechang (large intestine)
The golden-grilled daechang (beef large intestine) released a mouthful of savory fat with each bite, soft and chewy at once! Eating it with scallion kimchi and chives kept things from getting too rich — that scallion kimchi is a magic ingredient! Topped with shiitake wasabi, the subtle mushroom aroma and sharp wasabi kick cut through the fattiness for a clean finish :)
Teukyang (prime beef tripe)
The teukyang (beef reed tripe) was golden and slightly crisp outside, with a crunchy, chewy texture that got more appealing the more you chewed. Less rich than gopchang or daechang, with a lighter, savory flavor that made it a good palate reset in between other cuts! The distinct texture and savory taste of teukyang really came out the more I chewed, offering its own unique charm within the mixed platter :)

I especially loved the spicy house sauce~ Dipping the cuts in different combinations kept surprising me and I couldn't put my chopsticks down!
Finishing with Omokgyo fried rice, 6,900 won a plate

After finishing the gopchang, we couldn't skip the Omokgyo fried rice (₩6,900)! Beaten egg was poured generously around the fried rice, topped with a good amount of seaweed flakes and flying fish roe — mouthwatering just to look at!

Once the egg cooks a bit, you mix it evenly into the fried rice — the spicy, savory rice blended with the soft egg was such a great match. The bits that stuck to the grill got a bit crispy, giving that satisfying scraped-off crunch too :) Even after eating our fill of gopchang, the fried rice was just impossible to skip as a finish!
A small touch: mouthwash in the restroom

There was mouthwash set up in the restroom for use after the meal. I liked that they thought of this small touch :) Very thoughtful!
Final verdict: would I go back to Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch?
- Savory, fat-packed gopchang with zero gamey smell
- A generous mixed platter with gopchang, daechang, makchang and teukyang
- Fun to mix and match with the variety of side dishes
- Staff grilling it for you plus a dramatic fire show
- Egg fried rice that was delicious right to the end
Would I return: ★★★★★ 5/5
With just the mixed gopchang, we got to try everything from gopchang to daechang, makchang and teukyang — overall clean with no gamey smell, and each cut had its own texture and charm that made choosing between them fun! The gopchang packed with fat was especially savory, and the daechang, grilled golden, had really nice rich flavor too.
With so many sides to pair it with — scallion kimchi, chives, bean sprouts, shiitake wasabi sauce — there was a lot of fun trying different combinations. The spicy house sauce was especially my thing! It cut the richness and I kept reaching for more. The staff grilling it for us and the fire show partway through made for an easy, entertaining meal~
Finally, finishing off with the egg-laden fried rice made for the perfect ending. If you're looking for a good spot near Omokgyo for gopchang with a drink, I'd recommend Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch :)
