In short

Madam Hao is a Hanoi-style Vietnamese restaurant run by Vietnamese owners on the restaurant row in front of Ajou University in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Lunch at Madam Hao was bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles) with smoky charcoal-grilled meat and nuoc mam dipping sauce, plus cha gio (crisp fried rice-paper rolls), and parking is available right in front of the restaurant. Madam Hao works as a filling lunch by day and turns into a relaxed spot for a beer under warm lighting at night.

Where is Madam Hao, the Vietnamese restaurant near Ajou University in Suwon?

Madam Hao is a Vietnamese restaurant tucked into the restaurant-packed alley in front of Ajou University in Suwon. I've had a lot of reasons to be in Suwon lately, so I've been hunting down good spots there haha. I love Vietnamese food, and I found a Vietnamese restaurant right by Ajou run by Vietnamese owners!

Madam Hao sits in the area packed with restaurants near Ajou, right on the kind of route where you can wander cafés and streets afterward — feels like a solid date spot or a good place to meet friends :)

Parking space in front of Madam Hao

There's parking right in front of the restaurant too, so getting there by car was no trouble at all~

Madam Hao's interior lighting and Vietnamese-style decor

A restaurant by day, a bar by night at Madam Hao

The inside of Madam Hao is decorated with warm lighting and interiors that channel Vietnam itself. The moment I walked in, warm, atmospheric lighting and the local Vietnamese feel greeted me~ During the day it's comfortable and filling for a meal, and apparently once evening hits, it transforms into a moody bar perfect for a beer under the atmospheric lights — quite the reveal~

Madam Hao's menu and the table guide on how to eat it

The menu ranges from a rich, deeply simmered broth for authentic pho, to bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles) dipped in a sweet-and-tangy sauce, to savory Vietnamese-style fried rice, to cha gio (crispy rice-paper spring rolls) with a crunchy shell and hearty filling — a good spread of Hanoi's signature dishes.

There's a friendly guide on the table explaining how to eat bun cha, cha ca la vong, and banh cuon haha~

Bun cha: charcoal-grilled pork with nuoc mam sauce

What I ordered at Madam Hao was bun cha and cha gio, the two of them. I ordered bun cha and cha gio! Right after ordering, they first brought out these crackers, which made for a great appetizer for my growling stomach^^

Crackers served as an appetizer after ordering

Oh, the bun cha came out with a distinctly Vietnamese-feeling, unique presentation~

Charcoal-grilled pork for the bun cha

Grilled pork with a faint charcoal aroma, fresh raw vegetables, and thin rice noodles were all neatly laid out on one tray!

Dunking the noodles, vegetables, and charcoal-grilled pork deep into the perfectly balanced sweet-and-tangy house nuoc mam sauce, the freshness and savory richness blended perfectly in my mouth! The pork had no off odors, just a subtle smoky flavor that stayed alive, so I could eat it the whole way through without getting tired of it, nice and refreshing^^

Eating the bun cha

Cha gio: crisp fried rice-paper rolls

Madam Hao's cha gio had a rice-paper shell so crispy it practically crackled. And here's the cha gio, fried up nice and crunchy!

Madam Hao's crispy fried cha gio

The moment I took a bite, there was a satisfying crunch loud enough to hear — the texture of that rice-paper shell was excellent! The inside was packed tight with meat and vegetables, crispy outside and moist inside, exactly as it should be~ Dipping it lightly in the bun cha sauce or chili sauce made it a real treat^^
