Songdo Indian curry date night: chicken spicy curry Set B, Manokamana

In short

Manokamana Triple Street Branch 2 is an Indian curry restaurant at Triple Street in Songdo, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. On a Wednesday evening two diners ordered two Set Bs and shared chicken spicy curry, garlic naan and mango and strawberry lassi (4,000 won a glass); the curry was warmly spiced without being punishing, so it worked with both the rice and the naan. Chicken tikka tastes best dipped in the curry, and because Manokamana fills up even on weekday evenings, booking ahead is the safer plan.

I visited Manokamana, the famous Indian curry restaurant in Triple Street.

It's a place that should satisfy both curry newbies and regulars alike, so if you're planning a date or outing to Triple Street, take note.

Do you need a reservation at Manokamana Triple Street Branch 2 on a weeknight?

By the time we finished eating, it was near closing and the crowd had thinned out. We visited on a weekday Wednesday evening, and when we arrived the place was packed, so I'd recommend booking ahead. ❗️Reservation recommended❗️

If you're visiting as a group, they'll push tables together to make a group seating area for you when you reserve ahead. Definitely recommend booking if you're coming in a group!

I didn't manage to film it, but right when you sit down, a staff member pours your water almost like a little performance — it might catch you off guard. (Only my boyfriend had sat down, and they poured his water before I'd even taken my seat, so I missed the shot!)

Is two Set B orders enough for two people at Manokamana?

After going back and forth on what to order, we settled on two Set Bs. The portion might look small at first, but once the food arrived and we started eating, we were actually really full. Set B alone was more than enough for a proper meal.

Side dishes and the 4,000-won mango and strawberry lassi

Basic side dishes at Manokamana: kimchi, pickles, and jalapeños
Kimchi / pickles / jalapeños

These are the basic side dishes that come with the meal — good to pair with naan or curry if either starts feeling too rich. That said, I never touched them once while eating the naan and curry. The reason? The curry and naan were already delicious enough on their own!

We drank lassi, the traditional Indian yogurt drink — we picked mango and strawberry flavors.

Both tasted like a fairly standard fruit yogurt, but they were good enough that we finished every last drop. One glass of lassi is ₩4,000. The salad dressing, though, had a flavor I wasn't expecting — personally it was a bit of a 'huh?' for my taste.

Chicken tikka tastes better dipped in the curry

Set B also comes with chicken tikka, which honestly tasted blander than I'd expected on its own. A coworker later told me it's actually really good dipped in the curry. Next time I go, I'll have to try that.

Chicken spicy curry with garlic naan: how spicy is it?

Next up: curry and naan. There were so many flavors it was hard to choose, but in the end we went with the chicken spicy curry and garlic naan.

A generously sized piece of garlic naan

Here's the chicken curry and garlic naan. The naan came out huge, so we ended up tearing it apart by hand (wet wipes are a must before eating). The garlic naan seemed to be naan topped with garlic seasoning sprinkled on.

The curry was so good. There was a cute little scattering of vegetables on top, and chunks of chicken mixed right into the curry! I tasted the curry on its own and couldn't believe how good it was. We ordered it spicy, and I loved that it wasn't overwhelmingly hot.

Let me show you the best way to enjoy the curry.

Tearing garlic naan and dipping it into chicken curry

Tear off a piece of naan and dunk it right into the curry. The naan-and-curry combo is genuinely delicious. We'd picked the garlic naan, and luckily it paired really well with the chicken curry — its slightly sweet flavor matched nicely against the curry's spiciness.

Mixing the Set B rice into the chicken spicy curry

Set B comes with rice, so we mixed the curry into the rice.

Rice from Set B mixed together with curry

The curry itself was so good that I felt like I could've easily eaten two bowls of rice with it alone. That night I put dieting on pause and just kept putting food in my mouth because it was that tasty. Thanks to the chicken in the curry, it went even better with the rice. Made me wonder how good the other curries at Manokamana must be.

Last thing — I didn't get a photo of this, but you dip the chicken tandoori into the curry sauce too. Chicken and curry together turned out to be an even better combo than the sauce it originally comes with. So I highly, highly recommend dipping your chicken in the curry as well 🌼

Verdict: Manokamana as a Songdo Indian curry date spot

My personal rating for Manokamana Triple Street Branch 2: ★★★★☆

I'd heard the staff are Nepali locals, and worried a bit about whether they'd speak Korean — but they spoke it fluently, so there was nothing to worry about, and ordering is done via QR code. The dishes are all seasoned with spices, but they suited my taste, and my boyfriend who came along said it was delicious too — we both finished everything and left completely full. I get why this place is known as one of the best Indian curry spots in Songdo. I already want to go back, and if I find someone to go with for Indian curry in Songdo, I'll definitely be back.
